Chapter 26 - Be double sure

"Miss Long, do you think we have time to hear your excuses?" Secretary Ji snapped. "We all have been in trouble because we couldn't find a translator to translate our files and now we found one, she is hopeless and doesn't know how to do her job. If you haven't translated the files, you could have just said so and we could have looked for another translator.

"I translated the files and even emailed you, " Zuni stressed. She wasn't lying!

"Are you saying that someone deleted your files, Miss Long?" Liu Jingjing raised her brow in the provocation. She was waiting for this drama to happen. "None of us moved from our desks. Are you still going to say that we deleted your files?"

"Absolutely, " Zuni said. She was one of those people who were going to argue until the end of the world if they were right. Patience was something she never learned. Of course, she had an abundance of patience when it came to her husband but for the rest? Nah!

Her words were enough to offend Secretary Ji who was looking after the affairs of the department.

"Attention everyone. Our newcomer is saying that someone deleted files from her computer, " Secretary Ji said and the other co-workers began muttering to themselves. All of them were offended by Zuni's one answer.

"What's the commotion about?" Song Jingren, who just left the office, asked as he looked at everyone standing in the crowd and talking to themselves. He deliberately didn't look at Zuni.

"HR sent an incompetent candidate, "Liu Jingjing added oil to the flame. "Not only did she slack off on her job, she even tried to harm her co-workers. Instead of accepting mistakes, she put the blame for her incompetence on others."

"Ask Chief secretary to fire the incompetent staff, " Song Jingren ruthlessly said while Zuni clenched her hand. Her long nails digging into her palm. Once he announced to fire her, she didn't give any explanation of her innocence. Since she was deemed a villainess, so be it! If she started playing the role of a villainess, all of them were going to cry like newborn babies.

He didn't stay there for long and went back to his office.

All the workers in the department were talking behind her back and she was quietly standing next to her desk, taking deep breaths.

'Zuni, think about world peace.'

'Don't bomb the office. Your Baobei may get hurt too.'

'Don't kill these bitches. Your Baobei is cruel. He won't bail you out.'

'Fuck! World peace!'

Before she could do anything impulsive that she would regret later, Secretary Amanda returned to the office. "What's going on here? I left for an hour and all of you forget that you are here to work. Is that what all of you do in my absence?"

"Head Secretary Amanda, President Song asked you to fire Miss Long, " Secretary Ji didn't beat around the bush and said.

"What's the reason?" Amanda asked as she raised her brow.

"She put the blame of her incompetence on others," Secretary Ji said. "She said someone deleted her files from her computer when I asked her to send them to me."

"Secretary Liu, I asked you to call Tim from the IT department to change the computer at the desk last week, did you inform him?" Amanda asked as she turned to look at Liu Jingjing. Suddenly, the mutterings stopped and all of them turned their gazes to look at Liu Jingjing.

Liu Jingjing was rendered speechless. She recalled that Amanda had really told her to get the computer changed but she forgot about it. She didn't know how it slipped her mind but it did.

"Before blaming someone else, please do check if you have your faults too, " Amanda said. "Miss Long sent one copy of the files to my email too. If the file can reach me, how did it not reach Secretary Ji's email? I'm sure it was her computer that was broken. Nobody had deleted files from her computer."

The last sentence was her attempt at sarcasm.

"I apologise, " Liu Jingjing said through gritted teeth.

"Back to work, " Amanda said without looking at them back and went to walk to Zuni and added,  "You got your lesson today. Don't trust anyone. Be double-sure and make copies all the time."

"Thank you, sister Amanda, " Zuni said. She had not sent any copy to Amanda and she could tell that the lady had seen through the schemes of the co-workers here. "I will try to recover the old files."

Amanda nodded her head and walked back to her office. She had got the computer changed last week because she knew that Liu Jingjing wouldn't remember about it. She hadn't guessed that girl to be so immature with her schemes. She took a deep breath and added in her notes to claim a bonus. She just saved her boss's office from blowing up.

If Zuni was still the bomb that she was years ago, no one could stop those secretaries to cry tears of blood.
