The field would not bear any more strawberries and tomatoes this year, but strawberries were perennial plants. After being planted, their ability to bear fruit would only decline three years later.

Moreover, in general, when planting strawberries, the number of strawberries bearing fruit in the first year would be relatively small, the number of strawberries bearing fruit in the second year was the most, and the number of strawberries bearing fruit in the third year would drop significantly.

Therefore, under normal circumstances, in order for strawberries to bear more fruits, new seedlings had to be replaced every three years or so.
