My heart pounded in my chest, a mixture of relief and apprehension coursing through my veins. Anas glanced up at me, her eyes searching mine, and for a moment, I saw a flicker of recognition in her gaze. But it quickly faded, concealed by the veil of forgotten memories. I plastered a smile on my face, masking the sorrow that weighed upon my soul.
"Hello, Miss," Anas greeted me, her voice soft and delicate. Her eyes held a hint of familiarity, a connection she couldn't quite grasp. It warmed my heart to know that somewhere within her, a fragment of our shared history still lingered.
In this time when there was no reason to smile at all, Anas's gentle smile was the only comforting element that made me want to hold on.
It was quite saddening that she didn't know I was her sister but then, I guess it's okay if one of us carries the memories still.
"Hey." I squatted close to her, playfully scattering her hair with my wet hands.
