Even without high heels on, Varya still would be no match for Basileus's speed. With little effort, he caught up with her and got to her even before she could open the door to the antechamber.
Her hand never pressed against the panel.
Basileus grabbed her wrists in both of his hands and pressed his body against her back, causing the front of her to press against the closed door.
The contrast of the cold door and his warm body against either side of her caused her to shiver.
"What's your plan, Basileus?" Varya asked quietly.
He had caught her but his movements ceased.
"What does the empress want me to do to her on her birthday?" he asked in a low voice.
Her hair was tickling his face and he smelled the sweet scent of the top of her head. Wanting to feel more of her, he let go of her hands and his hands went to her hips. He pulled her lower body toward him and he grinded against her.
