Basileus had foolishly thought he knew what it was like to miss Varya before. What he was feeling now was something more advanced. He couldn't fully wrap his head around what he was feeling.
He had made the incorrect assumption that the closer they became, the more comfortable he would be leaving for his work and looking back, knowing she would be waiting for him no matter what. Yet he felt heavy as he tried to go through his usual tasks. All he wanted to do was climb into bed at the end of the day and cuddle up to the woman he adored.
There was a wide breadth of difference between the way he missed her when they were forcibly separated and he wasn't sure she was still alive compared to the way he missed her knowing what it was like to love her fully both as the woman he was set to marry and mother of his child.
