The curtains were drawn and the only noise was the machines he was hooked to that were monitoring his progress.
He saw Varya sleeping at their son's bedside. She had been sitting in a chair but leaned forward and rested her upper body on the bed next to her son. Her silver hair was splayed out and concealing her face as she slept, holding onto one of their son's hands through the blanket so she wouldn't make him unnecessarily cold.
The prince gave a slight smile at the sight and he walked forward to Varya.
He couldn't ask for a better mother for their child. Her selflessness never ceased to amaze him.
