Varya lay on the floor of the main room in Ebari's quarters, her silvery hair draping over the arm she rested her head on.
She watched with interest as Basileus Jr. lay on his stomach on top of a fuzzy blanket and occasionally tried to push his body up to no avail. He had a big head and not enough neck strength to lift it, so most of the time he lay there and took in what he could see of his surroundings from a new angle.
Varya and Basil were facing each other and he cracked a small smile at her. It was one of the first and each one so far had caused Varya to praise him and smile back.
"My clever boy," she said and smoothed her hand over his dark grey hair.
It had taken a couple of weeks to adjust to her new living situation. Not only was she suddenly a mother, but she also had a new roommate.
