Later in the day, the tea party moved to the music room, and the ladies wandered about talking with each other. Some of the women embroidered, while others played games of cards and chess. No one had yet to approach Rose, and she was grateful.
"Let's get some tea and a piece of cake," said Giselle.
She tugged on Rose to get up from her seat.
"The chef who made the pastries is famous. You don't want to miss out on something so delicious."
Giselle handed Rose a cup of tea and a plate with strawberry cake. The next thing Rose knew, Madeleine had taken the piece of cake and smashed it into her dress, and poured tea down the front of her.
"Aww... I'm so clumsy. Let me help you clean up," said Madeleine, grinding the cake further into the dress with a napkin.
"You have helped enough for one day," said Giselle tersely.
She pushed Madeleine Elaine out of the way.
"I said I was sorry. Why are you being so rude, Giselle?"
