After Giselle and Deacon returned from Shadestone, Kane met their carriage. He found Deacon asleep on Giselle's lap, and she looked weary when he opened the door. It was clear that their journey had been lengthy, and Giselle had taken care of Deacon throughout the trip. Lord Alexsander picked up the young boy, and he murmured in his sleep. His face held a painful grimace, as if he were in distress. His hair and clothing were drenched in sweat.
"I assume there was no trouble on the way home, and why is this boy's clothing so wet?" Kane asked, with his brow arched.
Although he was worried that Dante would retaliate again, Kane was more concerned for Deacon at the moment.
"The boy is hot-natured. He does not have a fever or chills. When I tried to cover him, he threw the blanket off." Giselle reassured her husband.
