Lucy moved closer to Rose. She cautiously stepped back from the maid, her eyes darting around the room to be sure no one else was there. Because of the strange, mirage-like apparition, Rose became paranoid. She thought she was dreaming and about to be attacked again. Her wary gaze never left Lucy. Rose pressed her back against the kitchen wall. So nothing could come up behind her, although she knew if this were another nightmare, that would not matter.
She removed her dagger and held it out of the maid's sight behind her back. Rose became aware that Lucy had stopped moving and stared back at her, unmoved. The reason for this was that there was another presence in the room. Rose quickly glanced at the entrance and noticed Sir Bryson's massive stature standing there, observing her. Rose's heart raced, and her mouth went dry. She prepared herself for whatever Sir Bryson had in store. However, he only gave her a silent glare as he waited at the kitchen entry.
