Dust rose in the distance as Lord Alexsander shielded his eyes from the afternoon sun. He saw the figure of Christopher atop Onyx running in their direction. Kane had already sent Lucy, Rose, and Sir Bryson ahead. He and Christopher would need to press forward quickly if they wanted to catch up and reach Northbrook before night fall.
"Did you find what you were looking for?" Kane asked his brother as he moved his horse closer.
Christopher gave an affirmative nod and his face lit up with a smile.
"Yes, and it is safe now." He patted the pocket over his heart.
Kane was intrigued by the notion of what was so important that he decided to stay behind in order to find it.
"I am familiar with that particular expression you have. Would you like to know what it was that I was searching for when I was back there? I suppose your man gave you an update on what I was doing."
Kane grinned sheepishly. "I am certainly intrigued,"
