A frustrated huff escaped Kane as he stared at Sir Bryson, his mind racing over how quickly things had gone awry. Looking at the young man before him, he could almost hear his own voice echoing back to him from the past.
Kane suddenly felt ancient and bone-weary, as if every ounce of energy had been drained from him. He stumbled backward; the ground racing up to meet him until Bryson's quick reflexes grabbed him before he fell. He felt his body growing tired and his legs buckling under the exhaustion.
Upon seeing Kane in such a state, Commander Bryson's face fell, and he quickly guided him to the settee.
Lord Alexsander leaned his head back into the rest and closed his eyes, pinching the skin between the bridge of his nose. He internally scolded himself for being weak. 'This was not a time for him to lie down and sleep. He had too much to accomplish.'
