In a matter of minutes, Giselle had fallen into a peaceful slumber. There was no longer a pained grimace on her face like earlier. Kane knew his time away from her would be limited. She would need to feed again soon. He was eager for her to get well and noticed each time she drank blood from him, her health seemed to improve, and she looked a bit stronger.
There was a relief that fell over Kane, washing away the anxiety that was building inside him last night—the images of her falling re-played in his mind. The sight of her broken body lying on the floor and hearing her screams was so painful that it stabbed at his heart. He felt a wave of anger course through his veins as he realized there was nothing he could do to stop what had happened.
He brushed away the thought as he rubbed his tired eyes with his hand. Right now, he did not have time to rehash the what-ifs. There were more important things to handle. Things there were vital to Giselle's well-being.
