When Dante awoke, the room was enveloped in a veil of darkness, and he peered into the tufted canopy of his bed. He repositioned himself and noticed streaks of illumination spilling through the pleats of the curtains.
He shifted restlessly, trying to find a position that would provide a little more ease. He moved around on the mattress, and the fabric of the blanket made a soft swishing sound. After feeling the ache in his muscles, Dante knew he wouldn't be able to get back to sleep, so he reluctantly got out of bed.
When Dante reached the bathroom to ready himself for the day, he heard the sound of a bell ringing from the front of the estate. He was surprised to hear the noise, and he wondered who was coming to visit. His mind immediately went to the Duke, wondering what he was doing here. He was likely coming by to make sure the Count was alright after his sudden departure the previous night.
