While they stood on the sidewalk and Rose finished her cotton candy, she watched another trolley roll through the street in the opposite direction. Her mind was whirling with wonder. She became even more curious about the contraption that carried people about the town.
Rose stepped beside The Lord.
She became hyperaware of how much he loomed over her when they stood beside one another. The top of her head did not even reach his shoulder.
Yet she did not feel fearful. Most men of his stature intimidated Rose, but not Chris. She felt a sense of protectiveness or, rather, possessiveness when they were together.
She was especially aware of this when she could feel the gazes of other men on her. Like right now. The men strolling the streets would occasionally glance her way, and their eyes would linger before they moved on.
Christopher looked down at her with intense grey eyes as she tentatively called out his name.
"Chris?"
