Rose cocked her head to the side, and a furrow between her brow formed. Her expression was one of inquisitiveness. "I would like to know something. Didn't Lilith love Christopher?"
Lady Elizabeth picked up her napkin from the tea table and wiped the corner of her lips as she swallowed her cookie.
"Yes, and No…" Ms. Harvey wavered for a moment, then told Rose about Christopher's deceased wife.
"Lilith had strange ideas of what love was. She was a narcissist, objectified everything, and was extremely self-centered. She thought love was shown in physical possessions, trinkets, and shiny toys. As soon as she got what she craved, the contentment would be fleeting, and she would soon demand something else. There was no way to make that woman happy."
