"Evening Lady Rose. Sorry to summon you here so late."
Kane, Giselle, and Christopher were all seated around the room.
"There is someone I would like you to meet," said Kane.
Christopher stood to greet Rose, and she shrunk away to stand behind Haydon.
"I know who you are," she said. "Please don't come any closer." Rose glared at Christopher.
The Lord felt a pang in his heart as she recoiled from him. He would have to treat her gently and try to rebuild her trust for a second time. The whole situation infuriated him.
"I know you too," he said lightly. "I'm here to thank you for saving Onyx last night. We have a gift for you. Please come sit with us." Christopher showed her the seat next to him and gave her a warm smile.
"Only if Sir Haydon may stay by my side," Rose said sternly.
"I insist on it, especially if it makes you feel more secure," Lord Thorn said casually.
