A little boy of ten or eleven ran to the group gathered around Christopher and Onyx. He was panting and looked unsightly. The young man was red in the face and wore an excited, yet worried, expression.
"Sir H-H-Haydon!" He finally shouted. "Lady A-A-Agatha said to c-come q-q-quick. It won't be m-m-much longer."
"Relax, Deacon, what are you saying? You are talking too fast for me to understand, boy." It only took an instant for Haydon to register what the child was vocalizing.
"It's time? The baby is on its way?" Haydon's voice was laced with excitement and raised an octave as he spoke.
Deacon nodded his head vigorously. "C-come on, Sir, we have to g-go now!" The small boy stammered and pulled at the knight's hand to follow him.
"I can't leave, Deacon." He shook his head at the child. "I have orders." His brows knitted with worry for his wife and unborn child. She was late delivering, and there were concerns. He would miss the birth of his firstborn.
