Ortiz was attending a business dinner on behalf of Victor as he had to take care of some other stuff. Ortiz wouldn't have bothered attending this dinner and could have sent one of his subordinates in his place.
But he changed his mind at the last minute as it was better to be distracted late in the night than spend hours mulling over the same things.
The dinner was quite boring to his taste as all he had to do was tolerate the undue and contrived flattery the people with him kept throwing at him, just to get favours from the Sanders Group.
Ortiz was not new to these things, and even after ages, they irritated him the same.
