It was past midnight when the woman in the small apartment heard loud bangs on her door. She startled at the loud noise and scampered to search for a knife. She found it right on the kitchen bar.
Its blade gleamed under the light overhead of her. Grabbing the handle tightly in her hand, she slowly made her way to the door.
What if they had found her?
That thought made her hands shake in fright. She couldn't be get caught just yet, not when she was so close to her revenge.
She stopped right behind the closed door and waited to hear any other sound that could give away the identity of the visitor. After another round of banging, she finally heard a familiar voice.
"Open the door."
Life again braced her, and her hold on the knife loosened. With relief washing over her, she opened the door, and the man walked inside. He closed the door behind him.
Before he turned, he caught the edgy knife in her hand. He raised his brow at her, and she smiled sheepishly.
