He finally arrived at the villa half an hour later. Using a spare key, he unlocked the door and walked in. The lights flickered and then died, plunging the interior into darkness. Undeterred, he rummaged through his pockets for his phone, the screen casting a faint blue glow on his anxious face.
"Ah…" A blood-curdling scream shook the air, making Jasper's heart skip a beat. The file he had been holding slipped out of his grasp and fell to the ground.
Panic struck his heart. Jasper thought someone broke into the house when he was absent, and Ella was in trouble. He glanced up at his room, where he had his gun. But he didn't have time to go there and bring the gun. Whoever was inside the house could hurt Ella if he had not acted immediately.
He flashed the light from his phone and prudently approached her room, his long strides devouring the distance to her room. He burst through the door, his phone held high, the light illuminating the space.
