"To answer your question, I do not know." She continued, "I'm aware Ayla became his mistress because I refused to sleep on the same bed with him and chose to distance myself from him. Ayla could give him temporary comfort and companionship that I couldn't provide then. However, I don't doubt that Alistair's obsession with me wouldn't make it possible for him to take Ayla as his wife."
"I do not understand his obsession with you, Addie," Lennox said with displeasure.
Addie sighed, her eyes filled with a mix of sadness and frustration. "I wish I could understand it myself, Lennox. It's as if he sees something in me that no one else does, which captivates him beyond reason."
She paused for a moment, contemplating her next words. "But regardless of his obsession, I won't allow him to take control of my life anymore."
