Chapter 4 - Mating Night

Aurora was prepared for her first night with an Alpha she didn't know anything about. She hadn't even seen his face. If there was another word for unlucky, it would describe her perfectly. While she was being bathed, she noticed that her thighs were swollen and scratched. She wondered if the slavers had ever properly treated her wounds.

She sat nervously on a chair in a room that was supposed to be for the Alpha. Her heart raced as she waited for him to arrive. She was wearing a simple gown with nothing underneath, which made it easy for the Alpha to undress her.

She didn't want the maids to touch her anymore, so she couldn't tell them about her injured thigh. She regretted not speaking up earlier. The pain was bearable, but she wasn't sure if she could handle mating with the Alpha in her current condition.

What if he killed her for sleeping with him when she had wounded thighs? But it wasn't her fault. The woman who brought her in for him didn't check her properly. She clenched her hands in fear of what was to come. Should she tell the Alpha about her situation? Her mind was filled with so many thoughts that she could barely breathe.

He might think she was trying to avoid sleeping with him and decide to kill her. Either way, her plans wouldn't work. She hoped he wouldn't be rough when it came to mating with a woman. She had always protected her dignity.

She broke down when she thought of Lucas's words, "I didn't have sex with you because you wanted us to get married first, but you went behind my back to sleep around." Maybe she should have allowed Lucas have his way with her. At least it would have been more meaningful since they both wanted it, right?

She couldn't imagine mating with a stranger in a foreign land. Her heart skipped a beat when she heard the doorknob click open and someone enter the room.

She heard him approach and her heart started pounding. Her palms grew sweaty with anxiety. He stopped two steps away from her, and she felt his gaze on her, which made her even more nervous. 'Why isn't he speaking?' she thought.

"What are you doing?" His calm yet intimidating voice rang in her ears, reminding her of why she was there.

"Alpha..." she drawled, realizing she didn't even know his name. She was messing up badly, and he would probably kill her.

She raised her head to meet his gaze but could only see a faint view of what he looked like. The room was dimly lit, so she could only make out what he was wearing.

He was wearing a suit. She wondered if he was going somewhere important.

"I am your breeder," she suddenly blurted when she didn't know what else to do.

"You think I don't know that? I asked why you were sitting there instead of removing your clothes," his voice had a sharpness to it, as if he was prepared. Who was she kidding? She was the only one who didn't know about the mating process.

"I... okay," she said, and she stood up to start removing her clothes. Her hands trembled as she dropped them on her nightgown, ready to take it off.

Changing her mind, she confronted, "Why not marry your mate or find a responsible woman?" She didn't know where the boldness came from, but she wasn't going to let a stranger have his way with her easily.

"You can have one of those titles if you're willing to end up lonely," his voice sent shivers down her spine, scaring her. He took a step closer, and she saw a flicker of gold in his eyes before they returned to normal. Was he displaying dominance?

"Then why do you need a breeder?" She questioned him.

"Are you stalling for time?" He ignored her question and asked with a raised eyebrow.

He had already caught her. What should she do? "I have never been with a man before, and I don't want it to happen like this," she quickly explained, hoping he would understand.

"I never asked," he replied flatly.

"Then let me go if you don't care," she requested, testing his patience.

The room fell silent for a moment, and she knew she was in deep trouble. "I am..." she started but was interrupted.

"Why don't you want to mate with me?" His next question shocked her. Was he asking her why she didn't want him?

"I... I don't deserve to bear your child. I am just an unworthy slave," she lied, hoping to make him see her differently.

"The child would be taken away from you and raised as my successor. You can leave if you want," he said, shocking her. Why was he so difficult to convince? And what kind of custom was it to separate the mother from the child?

"Yes, but the child's background would be questioned later on," she didn't back down and decided to argue with him.

"They are called breeders for a reason. And if I eventually find my mate, the child won't have to be my successor," he explained further.

Aurora scoffed. So that was it? She was just a replacement for his mate in case he never found one. Well, not all werewolves were blessed with mates, and he didn't seem to care about having one. Could it be that he simply wanted a child?

"Are you desperate for a successor?" She asked, trying to clear her doubts and figure out what to do. If he wasn't lying, she could leave after giving him a child.

"Why don't I undress you so you can find out?" He said mischievously, moving his hand up to undress her.

"I will do it!" she exclaimed, quickly turning her back to him to remove her clothes. She took off the flimsy gown and covered her breasts while facing away from him. She felt vulnerable standing naked in front of a stranger, but she had no choice now that she was in his territory.

She was about to face him when he placed his hand on her waist and pulled her into his embrace. She gasped and flinched, not expecting such a gesture.

Bringing his mouth close to her, he seductively inhaled her scent, which strangely made her body yearn for something. "Now let's seal the mating!" she heard him whisper, and he sank his fangs into her neck.

"Ahhh"
