The Pope nodded, "As I was saying. Please, let us take the Duchess back to the capital to aid her in developing her abilities. As you already know by now, her power is divine. She will need the Temple's help in this matter." His tone was smug, "The mage tower is not practiced in our ways and would be unable to help the Duchess unlock her entire potential."
"Let me stop you there," said the Duke, uncrossing his legs and leaning his arms on the table, his stern gaze set on the pope.
"Faye will not be leaving my side. For any reason. Your people can come here. Anything that can be done at the Temple of Iahan can happen here as well."
"Oh, but you are wrong. The temple is set on hallowed land. Her powers would become hundreds of times greater if she were to train them at the temple."
The Duke smirked. He knew the sly tricks of the church and their priests and was ready for anything the Pope would throw at him.
