The fire roared in the fireplace when a violent wind gusted through the chimney, sending orange, glowing embers spiralling like fireflies in the hearth. As Faye sat silently on the bed, warm beneath the quilts, she watched Sterling awaken from his slumber.
Faye noticed him stretch and sit upright in the chair. He glanced at her, noticing she was awake. However, his brow was furrowed, and a frown tugged at his lips, showing his deep concern.
Nervously, he asked, "Can you recall what occurred earlier this evening?"
Faye nodded, staying silent, and once again, she turned her eyes away from the sight of him. He thought she must have felt pretty repulsed because he was a dragon and not a very nice one at that.
He gave her a few moments to gather her bearings. The Duke could see she herself had just awoken.
