The Duke's firm fingers tenderly stroked Faye's back, trying to soothe her as she sat vomiting repeatedly into the vase.
After a while, the nausea and spinning slowed. Faye flopped onto the bed, shutting her eyes tightly. She curled into a ball, moaning, too exhausted to move.
Sterling was still behind her, caressing her back. She was too humiliated to face him after he watched her being so sick.
There was an edge of concern in the Duke's voice. "Faye, how are you feeling, butterfly?"
She reached her hand out, and he took it. It looked so tiny and frail to him. He noted she was wearing the ruby ring he had recently gifted her.
It pleased him she wore everything he gave her with great pride.
