Sterling's brilliant ruby eyes fixed on Fayes. He asked in a strained voice. "I guess you heard all that?"
Upon hearing him ask, Faye's heart hitched. She blanched white and quickly averted her gaze. She had been caught.
Faye was worried he would be upset that she had listened in his conversation.
She heard him sigh and saw his bare feet as they slowly inched closer to her. She shut her eyes to get ready for him to berate her.
He had a gentle tone to his voice as he spoke. Almost as if he knew she was bracing for a scolding.
"If you think I am angry at you for listening in on my conversation, you are wrong."
He was now standing before her. She slowly raised her eyes and saw the godlike man peering down at her with a softness in his eyes.
She could discern through them worry, fierce protectiveness and the biggest emotion she perceived in his expressive eyes right now was his love for her.
