Faye quizzed the Duke, "Did these stones come from the caves at the rim?" Her innocent blue eyes flickered as brightly as the gems she held in her hands.
"Mhm…They did," he replied with a hum, his fiery, piercing eyes gleamed with desire as they met hers in the mirror. When he took the earrings from her hand, she felt a warm tingle over the skin of her fingers when their flesh made contact.
It never ceased to amaze her. One minute, Sterling could be so rash and insensitive, and the next. Like this—surprising her with little kindnesses. Sometimes, she wondered if his inner dragon was the key to his wishy-washy temper.
"Let me help you with these," he breathed next to Faye's now flushed cheek, distracting her from her wandering thoughts. Using his index finger, he neatly tucked her hair behind her ear so he could get a better view to fasten the new jewelry on her earlobe.
