When Dahlia stepped from the coach, her eyes were greeted by hundreds of guests and spectators. They had all crowded together on the road to the church, each person waiting to see her make her walk up the aisle.
She could hear soft murmurs and hushed whispers intermixed with the church bells and choir. The people all expressing how lovely she looked in her wedding dress.
When she glanced behind herself, Daliah noticed that the other carriages had also come to a halt, and their passengers were now getting off, too.
Mielle and Mrs. Garvin, Merrick's wife, rushed over to help Dahlia smooth out her wedding gown and straighten the train behind her.
Dahlia felt her heart lurch anxiously as she realized the moment was almost upon them; she was about to take her vows, becoming Mrs. Van Toth, the wife of Sir Carter Van Toth.
"You look absolutely exquisite," Mrs. Garvin said, with an infectious grin as she complimented Dahlia. Mielle nodded in agreement.
