Chapter 10 - The Major of Wolfdale

She passed by a quaint bakery, the aroma of freshly baked goods wafting through the air, tempting her senses.

Across the street, a small boutique displayed a collection of vintage clothing, drawing her attention with its timeless allure.

Liz relished the scenic and tranquil views of Wolfdale as she rode along. It was hard to imagine that this picturesque town was rumored to be an area of contention among supernatural beings due to an ancient prophecy.

As she pedaled through the streets, Liz couldn't help but wonder about the hidden layers of Wolfdale.

The quaint charm and peaceful atmosphere seemed at odds with the rumors she had heard. It was difficult to fathom that beneath the idyllic facade, there might be a brewing storm among supernatural forces.

She glanced at the historic buildings and the lush greenery that adorned the town, their beauty contrasting with the notion of a hidden supernatural struggle.

The town's serenity made it an unlikely battleground for mystical beings, and yet, she couldn't dismiss the possibility.

Liz's curiosity grew with each passing moment. She wondered how much truth lay behind the whispers of the prophecy.

Were there supernatural beings living among the townsfolk, their powers hidden from prying eyes? Did the ancient prophecy hold any weight, and if so, what did it entail for the future of Wolfdale?

Liz arrived at the campus where Professor Marcus taught and conducted his experiments, surprised to find that it only took her a ten-minute bike ride to reach her destination.

The front of the campus was adorned with a grand and majestic hospital building, its intricate and beautiful architecture commanding attention.

Liz couldn't help but be captivated by its presence, the intricate details and the blend of modernity and elegance that made it stand out.

As she parked her bicycle and made her way into the hospital, the automatic sliding doors welcomed her into a world of healing and care.

The interior exuded a sense of serenity and professionalism, with its clean lines and calming color schemes.

Liz found herself walking through spacious and well-lit hallways. The scent of antiseptic mingled with a hint of comforting warmth, creating an atmosphere of both sterility and compassion.

Nurses in crisp uniforms hurried by, their footsteps quiet and purposeful, while doctors conversed in hushed tones, their expertise evident in their every move.

The sound of beeping medical equipment and the gentle hum of activity filled the air, painting a picture of a place dedicated to the well-being of patients.

Liz couldn't help but be awed by the sheer scale of the hospital, its multiple floors and interconnected departments promising a wealth of medical expertise and innovation.

She passed by reception desks, where friendly staff members greeted visitors with warm smiles and helpful gestures.

The walls were adorned with artwork and photographs that celebrated the triumphs of medical breakthroughs and the human spirit.

Liz's eyes widened as she entered the main atrium, a vast space that featured a stunning glass ceiling, allowing natural light to filter in and bathe the area in a warm glow. A cascading waterfall adorned one corner, its gentle sound providing a soothing ambiance.

In the center of the atrium, a grand information desk stood, offering assistance to patients and visitors alike.

From there, a network of hallways branched out, leading to specialized wards, research laboratories, and lecture halls.

"Good morning, how may I assist you?" the girl behind the information desk greeted.

"My name is, uh, Liz. I..." Liz began to explain, but before she could continue, the receptionist interrupted. "Ah, Elizabeth, right? Professor Marcus and an important guest have been waiting for you in his office. Let me escort you there!"

Liz tilted her head in confusion. An important guest? She wasn't aware of any scheduled meeting with a guest. Nevertheless, she decided to follow the receptionist's lead.

They walked through the hallways of the laboratory wing. The corridors were filled with a sense of purpose and activity, scientists in lab coats bustling from one experiment to another, and the hum of scientific equipment filling the air.

As they made their way through the labyrinthine hallways, Liz couldn't help but marvel at the cutting-edge technology and the array of research being conducted in the various labs they passed by.

It was evident that this was a place of discovery and innovation, where the boundaries of scientific knowledge were continually pushed.

Then they arrived at Professor Marcus' office. The receptionist opened the door for Liz and gestured for her to enter. "Please, come in."

"Ah, thank you," Liz replied politely and stepped inside.

However, her jaw dropped in disbelief as she witnessed who was in the room. Professor Marcus was enjoying a cup of coffee with the one person she least wanted to encounter at that moment.

Gabriel.

Gabriel raised his coffee cup to his chin, his long and elegantly tapered fingers caressing the cup's handle. Liz noticed the emblem of a wolf adorning a ring on his finger, and it sent a shiver down her spine.

The steam from the hot coffee curled around his face, accentuating his lazy and menacing gaze. A sadistic smile played on his lips as their eyes locked.

Professor Marcus turned around and greeted Liz. "Oh, hello, Liz, you've arrived. How was your second night in Wolfdale? Did you sleep well?"

Liz was still in shock and unable to find her words. Her mind raced with questions and emotions, unsure of how to react to the unexpected presence of Gabriel in the professor's office.

"Second night? Didn't you say that she was found severely injured and unconscious at the outskirts of Wolfdale? That means last night was her first night in Wolfdale. Am I right?" Gabriel interjected, a cold and calculating smile playing on his lips. His demeanor exuded a cruel and icy aristocracy as he gracefully set down his coffee cup.

"Yes, that's correct. Liz was fortunate to survive the encounter with the wild pack at the outskirts. It's a highly dangerous area," Professor Marcus confirmed. "Oh, Liz, I need to introduce you to him. This is Gabriel Moonfire. He currently holds the position of his father, Fenrir Moonfire, who is the mayor of Wolfdale and also the main administrator of the campus where we work."
