Chapter 20: Doubts on a Housewife and Divorcee

She knew she could do a good job, but she would do it only for a company that was willing to hire her despite her lack of recent experience.

"What's so wrong with being a housewife? They are acting as if they didn't have wives or never had a mother to birth to them."

Loreen got even more frustrated the more she received biased and unwelcome treatment because she was honest to say she was a housewife for three years.

She was not one to lie on interviews since that was the time when employees and employers were supposed to know if their needs and capabilities align so they could work together.

And yet, she received unfair and biased treatment instead because of her honesty.

Should she have lied then?

But she didn't find the point in doing so.

If they find out later that she lied, she will only get more murmurs behind her back or worse yet fired for misrepresentation, lies, exaggeration, and disappointing her employer.

It was better to get hired on honest grounds, not from something built up from exaggerations, fabrications, and lies.

She may be sticking too much to her morals, but what was wrong with that?

Not because it was common to exaggerate and lie in job interviews meant that she should.

She would stick to her morals.

.

Loreen got too many rejections every single day she went searching for work. They made all sorts of excuses but upon getting out of the door, they whispered behind her back.

"She got divorced. She must have done something so her husband divorced her."

"If she's looking for a job immediately after divorce, she must not have received any alimony. She must have caused the divorce for her not to receive anything."

"She must have cheated for her to be divorced even though she's that pretty. It's not good for the company to hire her."

Loreen wanted to rebut them several times, but it would have been rude to open the doors of an office she was not a part of.

She did not want to cause a scene either since it might cause her not to get hired in other companies.

"Ugh. Damn it. Am I really that useless now? It was just three years.

"I was just married for three years. Yet, I cannot get hired now because of it?!

"It's not even my fault I got divorced.

"Why do they keep assuming it was my fault?!"

It was unbelievable.

Even her personal life was judged when all she wanted was apply for a job.

She could accept them saying something about her credentials. But why did they need to judge her about being a housewife or becoming a divorcee?

There are housewives everywhere in the world.

There are divorcees almost everywhere in the world as well.

And why do they automatically put the blame on her?

Rather, do they even need to find fault just because she was divorced.

She was hurt that Edric divorced her so suddenly but if she thought about it deeply, she could understand why he would ask for it even if, for instance, he did not hear anything from Sera.

Loreen did not want to blame him in front of strangers either for divorcing her. He had the right to decide what he wanted to do with his life.

Unluckily for her he wanted to divorce her.

But that was his decision, and she knew she did not need to blame him for it forever.

She was still saddened, and her chest still hurt every time she thought about it, but she understood, logically speaking, that Edric could do ask for divorce if he wanted to.

It was his life and his choice. It may be heavily influenced by other people's words and his parents' pressure on him to have children, but it was still his choice.

And now that she could think more logically, she could not blame him for wanting to part with her. She just hated his timing and how he did it.

His parents wanted grandchildren and he could not have it with her. He had a right to find someone else who could, so it was only right he divorced her first.

At least he did not cheat on her.

But she did not understand why people would blame her and think she was some kind of unreliable and distrustful woman, just because she got divorced, when they did not even know why she got divorced in the first place.

There could be a ton of reasons why it happened, and falling out of love or simply not wanting to be together anymore, could be among the reasons.

Worst yet, they even thought she must have committed something heavy for her not to get any alimony.

'I, myself, had chosen not to get any alimony from my rich ex-husband,' she wanted to say but let their words slip.

What point would it be to debate with people that had no value to her?

For all she cared, they could assume as they please and tire themselves for talking bad about her and wasting their time for nonsensical and illogical assumptions based on one word on her resume.

It was useless to prove them wrong right now.

She would speak with her actions.

.

.

.

More than a week passed without Loreen getting hired so she decided to apply on the last choice that she had.

To work in a bank.

She was not into working in banks since she did not like handling money - it was a headache.

And most importantly, Edric already said she was a gold digger.

What if he thought she decided to work in a bank because of her love for money?

Wouldn't he further think she was a gold digger indeed?

Still, should she care about what he may or may not have thought about her?

They were not together now anyway. Why would he even care to know where she was working at?

Thus, as her last resort, Loreen had no choice but to apply to a bank since it was the only one with an opening left that did not require prior experience and training for the job.
