Chapter 6 - Following Kian

"Hey, Daphne what are you doing?" Nyla ask. She gave a quick apology to the customer in front of Daphne. Nyla was collecting dirty dishes from the table when she saw Daphne who was about to pour coffee onto the table instead of the cup.

"I'm sorry, I wasn't looking." Daphne apologized as she poured the coffee into the cup. For days she hadn't been paying much attention to her surroundings, she had been silently watching Kian to check if there was anything off about him, something that could explain what she saw that snowy day. But Kian still looks the same every day. His face was always blank with no expression. Daphne feels as though he frowns every day. He barely spoke to anyone in the cafe, the only one Daphne had seen him speak to was Mr Mateo. Daphne heard from Esther that Mr Mateo was one of Kian distant uncles, and that was why no one spoke much about Kian's weird behavior, his uncle owned the place.

"I don't know if anything is troubling you, but you must focus on the job. Things would have been bad if you poured hot coffee on a customer's clothes." Nyla said.

Nyla was one of Mr Mateo's old employees who started working for him longer than Esther.

Daphne nodded at her. Since she moved into Rays city, her life had been peaceful, she could almost deceive herself that she didn't need to worry about Noah finding her. But Daphne knew that he was still searching for her. One day her peaceful life was going to come to an end. The moment she let herself calm down and feel like everything was okay, she was giving herself to death. But currently, at the moment, Kian worried Daphne more than Noah did. There was something strange about him, Daphne wanted to find out what it was. She was sure that she had seen him as a wolf, and since that day, she had secretly followed him around, waiting for him to transform again. That way she could tell herself that she wasn't crazy.

"Wait for me Daphne, I thought we were leaving together," Esther said. Daphne had already picked up her things to leave without waiting for her.

"I can't today, how about some other day." Daphne moves quickly, looking at the time. Kian always leaves the cafe at a particular time without being late to follow his schedule.

"You said the same thing yesterday," Esther grumbled under her breath. Daphne had been giving her the same excuse for days, and tomorrow she was sure that Daphne was going to give her the same excuse again. "Where are you always going? Can't I tag along?"

Daphne almost dropped her bag on the floor as she heard, Esther's request of tagging along. If Esther were to tag along, then she was going to misunderstand things and think that Daphne was a stalker, even though she was indeed stalking Kian around. "I have to go. I'm sorry Esther, next time for sure, we will leave together." Daphne lied.

Daphne quietly followed Kian, walking at a far distance behind him. It felt as though everything about him was automatic. He always passes the same road and stops at the same mansion after work without taking a detour. Daphne was sure that he wasn't rich, so she had a wild guess that he was probably working at the mansion. Made Daphne wonder if that was why he always had a frown on his face. He works too much and has zero time to rest.

Kian didn't go to the mansion like Daphne had expected. He passed it and went through an alley to another house. Daphne had been afraid to follow him through the alley, but there had been people around. Made her feel a little safe, even though she didn't trust people. In the world she came from, no one could be trusted, and now that nanny Elina and Tony were gone, Daphne felt guarded against everyone around her. Even Esther was no exception.

The house Kian went to look different from the mansion. It was a small and shabby house, Daphne wondered if that was where he lived. Through the window, she saw an elderly woman who looked as though she was either in her late forties or early fifties. Daphne gave out a loud gasp as a thought crossed her mind. 'is he here to kill her?'

The door to the house opens. Kian looked extremely annoyed, his angry eyes went straight to Daphne who quickly turned her gaze to the ground and pretended as though the stony road was the most interesting thing she had ever seen. Daphne didn't want to believe that he was walking towards her until she saw his shadow on the ground, he was standing in front of her.

"Since you love following me so much why don't you follow me into the house."

Daphne cast a glance at him. His arms were crossed around his broad chest as he glared at her. 'he is going to kill me.' she thought. Daphne pretended as though she wasn't the one he was talking to, as she turned her back away from him. She was sure that she had been careful in following him, if her late father found out of her poor skills in trailing someone, he was going to be disappointed.

"I don't know what you are talking about, I was just walking by. I'm sure, it is not a crime to walk around is it?"

Kian scoffed at Daphne. He mumbled something about him not being an idiot all because he was weak. Daphne took another glance at him because of his weird words. He didn't look weak, his muscles and his firm body shape looked strong, Daphne shook her head and blushed. She couldn't believe herself, she was about to die and she was thinking back to the day she saw him naked. 'who cares if he's hot when he's going to kill me.' Daphne thought.

"I don't know why you are following me around. I don't care to know, just stay away from me. Next time you do this again, you are going to get more than just a warning from me." Kian walks back into the house.

Daphne didn't feel threatened by him. It wasn't because she had a gun with her, but it was because she recognized what a real threat sounded like. And Kian didn't mean it. Although he was seriously annoyed and wanted her to stay away from him. He wasn't as dangerous as Daphne had thought.
