Chapter 5 - Playing the Fool

Zac saw the whole class staring at him as he entered the classroom where he had lessons today.

Some didn't hide their strange looks at him, while others looked at him out of the corner of their eyes and whispered what various classes in the school were saying about him.

"Look at that. It looks like the rumors are true. He really got beat up by Dario..."

"Is he okay? He doesn't look so good."

"If I were him, I wouldn't return to school after what happened. I heard that Dario pissed on his face after he lost consciousness."

"Hey! Don't talk so loud. He'll hear us."

Zac sat where he usually sat, near one of the windows at the back of the classroom, far away from the blackboard.

Even though he was the best student in the class, he didn't sit at the front.

He tried to ignore the whispers about him while he thought about how to deal with Dario. Unfortunately, he couldn't remember anything about that day, or maybe he could find a way out of his current situation.

As he looked through the window, someone called his name.

"Zac, how are you?" A sweet voice caught his attention and soothed his heart like a powerful medicine.

Zac immediately left whatever was on his mind and looked ahead, where Mia Bell had just stopped in front of him, smiling at him as if he was her favorite person in the world.

At the sight of Mia's body, Zac swallowed his saliva and felt something strange inside himself, then tried his best not to look below her neck.

'Damn, I'd forgotten about this annoying ability.' He thought as he tried to control himself while one of her hands went under his desk to his crotch.

Embarrassed, Zac couldn't help but pretend to hide...

"Mia... I'm fine, don't worry." He said as he spoke with a smile on his face.

He really liked Mia. To him, this blonde beauty was the prettiest girl in the whole school, and he had been romantically interested in her since they started studying together three years ago.

But he was shy and didn't dare to tell her he liked her or even ask her out.

Mia and everyone else in the class knew that which only worsened his chances. She smiled and said as she sat down in the chair across from him.

"Zac, I know you've probably heard the things everyone's talking about..." She said quietly, looking into his eyes. "I don't know how you're holding up, but it can't be easy. But you should forget it.

You know what Dario is like. He's an idiot. If you go after him, it will only get worse,". She said while she touched one of his arms with one of her hands. "He is not a good person for you to get involved with. So take my advice. Pretend that nothing happened and let it go. He'll probably talk about it for a while, but if you ignore him, he and his group will leave you alone."

Zac looked into Mia's eyes and frowned.

He didn't say anything right away, but he couldn't help but look over Mia's shoulder to see Sean watching them from the classroom entrance.

"I understand... You're worried about me." He murmured, making Mia smile at him.

"Of course. You shouldn't worry about a loser like Dario." She said as she stood up, feeling that her work was done.

'Zac, you really don't change. Even though you're so smart, you can't stand my charm.' She adjusted her clothes discreetly but in a way that made her 'twins' easier to see from Zac's position.

While she smiled, thinking she had succeeded in her mission, Zac couldn't help but clench his fists as he pretended to be convinced by her.

He closed his eyes as he turned his face back to the window and couldn't help but sigh. 'You and Sean think you can fool me...'

Although he was in love with Mia and was shy, Zac was aware of his surroundings and often played the fool.

He knew that Mia liked Sean and that she'd come to him to talk about something because of Sean.

He pretended that he didn't know anything so that he wouldn't have to deal with a change in his friend's behavior or make it even clearer to the class how pathetic he was. But he knew Mia didn't like him and was probably laughing at him behind his back.

Unfortunately, knowing that would not change his feelings so easily, he liked her. At least it hadn't changed that.

'Sean is a good friend, but does he only care about me?' Zac wondered.

His friendship with Sean had lasted long enough for him to trust the black-haired young man. That made him believe that Sean really wanted to protect him. But Zac couldn't help but feel uncomfortable that the guy always acted like this when there was a problem with Dario.

Dario had been giving Zac problems for some time now, but things seemed to be getting worse, yet Sean always recommended the same thing. 'Put your head down and act like nothing happened.'

'Sean knows something I don't.' He glanced discreetly at where his friend sat next to Mia and the other students in the class who didn't have problems like his.

'I'll see what I can find out. There are definitely people who know Dario and know whatever Sean knows that I don't.' He thought as the teacher of the day's first lesson entered the class, and all the students stopped talking as they sat down.

The teacher said a few words to him before starting the lesson, not going into too much depth but saying enough to make everyone look at him.

Fortunately, the classroom was very well lit by the natural light source in the area, and no one would notice the electrical phenomena that became more intense every time Zac became more nervous.

Zac would have to endure the sight of many naked people in front of him throughout the morning, suffering a lot from some of the teachers but also from some of his classmates.

To most people, the behavior of some students in class wouldn't be disturbing at first glance. But today, Zac saw things that worried him about what his next days would be like if he didn't control his strange powers.

At the first break of the day, he ran to a quiet area of the school, trying to find a quiet place to think about what to do.
