Chapter 20 - Outburst

Wu SuYi gulped. All those tension she felt coming from him, was this the reason? Han XiGuang wasn't one to make a joke out of such a topic and seeing his face, she knew he wasn't joking at all.

Wu SuYi looked away from his eyes, "I see."

Han XiGuang was silent before chuckles erupted from his lips, gaining her attention, "Is all 'I see' is what you have to say? I expected a bigger reaction. You was scared of me when we first met." Han XiGuang stressed on the word was as they was now getting along very well.

"A mafia or two, I have met them before during trials. Unless they pose threat to me, I won't be scared," Wu SuYi be as reasonable as she could, saying the words as to convince herself as well.

She could see how Rui grew up well. It's not possible for such a sweet boy to be kind and polite as him if his father had taught him the opposite way of the right path. Even normal people on the street could be much more evil than people in mafia at times, thought Wu SuYi to herself.

"I am glad to hear that," grinned Han XiGuang. "With my reputation, do you still want to meet me?"

Wu SuYi paused as she looked back at him, "What reputation?"

"This terrible name on me. I know how people fear me and it's your job as a lawyer to defend the civilian, which is the opposite of me. If I can ask, however, would you still please meet Rui from times to times? He seems to be very fond of you," Han XiGuang spoke without looking at her while she did the opposite.

"No," Wu SuYi shook her head. "Who I am friends with will not interfere with the right judgement I made. I have some friends from prison, but they are not as terrible as people thought they are. Some were forced to be in that position, others choice is because they are cornered, and some was just fooled and tricked."

Han XiGuang could tell Wu SuYi meant to encourage him. His smile appeared radiantly and for a moment it made her wondered if Han XiGuang had said those words on purpose, offering her to avoid him while knowing she would refuse his offer?

Thinking back to what happened in the classroom, Wu SuYi still hold one problem in her mind. "There was also one more rumors about you. But first I want you to believe I do not doubt your words."

Han XiGuang didn't mind answering things if Wu SuYi had asked them. He nodded briefly for her to continue.

"There was rumors that Rui's bodies are filled with bruises," Wu SuYi tried to be as apprehensive as she could with her words. Regardless it did touched the sorest spot in Han XiGuang's heart and she looked at her both confused and narrowed, worried about his son.

"Bruises?" Han XiGuang stopped the car immediately as they reached to the side of the road. Wu SuYi nodded her head, sensing his confusion.

"Have you ever took off Rui's clothes?" Wu SuYi have worked in several cases about domestic abuse but a child's injury never correlates only with their parents.

Han XiGuang's face went blank as though he realized something was off. Wu SuYi was right, he had never opened his son's clothing as the caretaker would take care of them.

Wu SuYi looked at him and spoke, "Can I see?"

Han XiGuang nodded at once. Wu SuYi pulled up the back of Rui's clothes and what they saw quickly turned Han XiGuang's face black. There were round patches on Rui's bodies in color of deep blue and purple. Some wounds seemed to have healed while the others were fresh as if it had been placed only a few days ago.

"Do you have anyone in mind?" Wu SuYi questioned at once. Han XiGuang's eyes became frighteningly filled with anger in a moment of speed.

"No," but he intended to find out. Without a single moment waste, he stepped on the car and drove to the nearest hospital.

Rui was brought for the checkup while Han XiGuang covered his face. Wu SuYi gently placed her hand on his back, understanding what emotions haywiring inside him. "It is not your fault."

Han XiGuang, being a single father, there was only an extend of things he could do alone, it was normal for hm to reach out to people who knows how to take care of a child.

Regardless, it all sounds like an excuse to his ears. He couldn't stop his anger to himself for not being able to protect his son when needed. And knowing how Rui had always been in pain all this time. He protected his son from the outside world but the threats didn't seem to come from only that place he had shielded him for.

The disappointment in himself was quick to grow. He looked at Wu SuYi and smiled, "Thank you, I really appreciate it. I am sorry Miss Wu, I won't be able to bring you back home. I will try to—" Wu SuYi held his arm, surprisingly, his finger was much more larger than she had imagined.

"I will come with you," she quickly offered. The look on Han XiGuang's face seemed dangerous. While she was extremely worried about Rui, the guards had come to protect him. She was more worried that Han XiGuang would take an action he would later regretted. Seeing the way his eyes glower in menace, she doesn't want him to be separated from Rui.

Han XiGuang noticed her intention. He was quiet before nodding his head, walking together with her and drove back to his house.
