Chapter 12 - Mysterious Boy (II)

Xiong Zhi watched their exchange from afar. She could not hear their conversation clearly, especially when Mi leaned closer to Qann to gossip. Xiong Zhi only read a few information from their lips.

From what she could tell, all the doctors were in the VIP area. It would probably take two hours.

Xiong Zhi calculated her available time if she could manage to visit two more places today.

If it took two hours, then she could only wait for tomorrow to visit the other two.

She turned back and was about to go downstairs to the waiting area when she changed her mind. She suddenly wanted to give it a shot if she could find Dr. Beiquing.

'Maybe he's outside the room. Perhaps I could talk to him.'

With this decision, she went to the upper floor where the VIP patients reside.

She used the stairs because she knew that the moment she step out of the elevator on the VIP floor, security guards would flock to her.

Since she was going to wait, why not try to find Dr. Beiquing first? Maybe her luck would be good.

After many floors, she arrived at the VIP floor.

As usual, the stairs had signboard with 'Used by staff only, please proceed to the VIP entrance to enter.'

She ignored the sign board and quietly walked in. She peered around in the silent hallway.

From afar, she could see two guards in every door. The long corridor only had four doors on the walls. Each room was considerably big.

Between two doors was another corridor.

Since she did not see Dr. Beiquing in this hallway, she needed to go to another corridor. The problem was she had to pass by the four guards who was at the two doors.

Xiong Zhi observed them. The guards on the left door talked silently to each other, while the pair on the right door was standing still with stern faces.

After a while, a radio was heard from the guards on both doors. After responding, the guards who received a radio left and went away. There was now only one guard on each door.

The guard on the left door seemed to be bored because he was alone.

He sauntered over and chatted with the guard. The room that was nearer to the corridor had no one guarding it.

Xiong Zhi saw this chance. If she ran into the hallway now while they were busy chatting, it should be possible to go unnoticed.

Xiong Zhi did not lose any time and ran to the next hallway without giving them a glance. She safely passed to the next corridor.

She leaned on the wall. Her heart was still beating fast because of the run. Xiong Zhi never did sports. So, it was a challenge for her to run and sneak around.

Xiong Zhi felt exhilarated. In her previous lifetime, she had never done this. She remembered a scene in an action movie where the leads secretly snuck into a building to get an important file.

Xiong Zhi pretended she was a spy. She liked the feeling. Her heart was beating so fast with anticipation. She was clearly enjoying herself.

In this corridor, there was no guards. But it had a CCTV camera on every pillar.

That was strange.

There should be guards here. Where were they?

Nevertheless, she did not see whom she wanted to see. So she went to another hallway while avoiding the CCTV camera.

The next corridor was different. The entrance to it had a frosted glass door.

Xiong Zhi had an idea what this hallway was for. It was for the VIP among the VIP's. It probably only had one room.

She opened it and entered inside. Since she saw nothing in the hallway, she went to the next one. She was just about to turn when she collided with something. Because of the impact, her butt kissed the ground. She groaned in pain.

"Sorry..."

When she heard a soft voice, Xiong Zhi looked up. She only managed to see his back and his silver hair.

The boy was tall and she could guess that he was around the same age as her. He was wearing a hospital gown.

The boy was running. From what, Xiong Zhi did not know and did not care. She stood up but then heard distinctive shouts. She saw several guards running to her direction.

Shoot! How did they found out?!

Xiong Zhi was very careful. Although inexperienced, she somehow avoided the guards and the cameras. If she was spy, she would be a good one.

She never intended to get caught in the first place.

If she got caught, it would be troublesome. Her identity would be investigated and they would know that her ID was fake.

If her identity was found out, the old man surely be displeased. He might break his agreement with her.

Understanding this, she turned around and ran. She could still see the silver-haired boy's back and followed him. Because she did not know where to run to, she simply followed the boy who seemed familiar with the way. When he turned left, she would turn left. When he entered a small door, she also entered. When he ran upstairs through the fire exit, she also followed.

The boy did not know that Xiong Zhi was escaping too and was following his escape route.

He arrived at the rooftop and rans towards the railings. He climbed the railings and stood there dangerously.

The boy opened his arms wide and closed his eyes. It looked like he was about to jump any moment.

Xiong Zhi arrived at the rooftop. Seeing the place, Xiong Zhi cursed inwardly. She should have not followed him when they were running upstairs. She should have ran downstairs!

She was about to turn back when she heard a shout.

"Why do you despise me so much and curse my fate?! Where should I die? At his mansion? At my mother's grave? In my big brother's place? Or here? The man I call father killed my mother. The man I trusted wants me to die! I hate them both! Will my death give them that satisfaction? If it does, I would rather die while telling the world their grave sins!" The silver boy poured out all his grievances in madness.

Xiong Zhi turned back and found the boy standing at the top of the railings. His eyes were closed, the wind made his hospital gown flutter, and his arms were stretched out.

Xiong Zhi found this scene amusing. It reminded her of the declamations she had watched when she was younger.

When the silver-haired boy stopped speaking entirely, Xiong Zhi walked to his side and looked down. This hospital building had 36 floors. Xiong Zhi wondered, if the boy jump down and die, would he feel any pain? Or one-second pain then die? She was truly curious. But still, with this height, the body would not make it intact.

"That'll hurt," Xiong Zhi muttered to herself.

However, the silver-haired boy heard it clearly and was startled to know that someone was beside him. Because of his shock, his balance faltered and his footing slipped. He tried to correct his balance to not fall down but failed.

When his two feet both slip away, the boy got really scared. He had never felt this terrified and scared before. He was never afraid of heights. He had always done this. But when he saw that he was truly about to fall, he got terrified of the heights he were at. He would surely die!

'I'm going to die.'

He managed to hold on to the railings. His feet were suspended in the air. He used all his strength to hold at the railings. He gritted his teeth.

He was afraid.

He was scared.

He was terrified.

He almost experienced death.

He never thought that he would be afraid this much. If he did not hold on, he would be gone now. Thinking he had almost died just a few moments earlier, he felt bitter and pained.

"I thought you want to die? Why did you change your mind?" Xiong Zhi asked nonchalantly with cold voice.

But the truth was, Xiong Zhi really got scared when he fell. She even ran to his side to grab him. She sighed with relief when she saw that he managed to hold on to the railings.

Yet her face and as well as her tone told a different story.

The silver-haired boy looked up at Xiong Zhi. He could not see her face well because of the cap but he could hear that cold voice.

'How could a girl be so heartless?! She can stand there calmly watching someone fall to his death.'

Then, he remembered that he had a father who could kill anyone, even his blood relative, for power, and a brother who would betray his younger brother and poison him to death just to eliminate a future rival. There was a bitter taste in his mouth. This world and the people who lived in here were ruthless.

When his brain registered Xiong Zhi's words, he laughed.

This laughter contained his bitterness, pain, hopelessness, and hatred.

That's right, how many times had he attempted to commit suicide? He had wanted to die, he always did. That was why he did not prevent himself from drinking the poison his brother gave him.

He had already given up his life.

Yet when he almost experienced death earlier, he only had one thought.

He wanted to live.
