Chapter 14 - When her suspicions are confirmed

Following their conversation with her grandfather. Thea was so worn out after her meeting with Erick today that she couldn't wait to get to her room and take a rejuvenating bath.

Nevertheless, a frazzled Anne who was pacing back and forth welcomed her outside of her room.

Anne quickly approached Thea after sensing her presence as though on cue. Anne looked at her from head to toe while maintaining a straight posture and a heavy heart. Which left Thea with a perplexed expression as she observed her nanny's peculiar behavior.

As she noticed Anne's pale face, she asked, "Anne, what's wrong? Is there something wrong?"

When she asked, Anne ignored her as she dragged her inside the room while holding her wrist.

The only thing Anne did while inside the room was staring worriedly at Thea while appearing to swallow her tongue. Anne continued to squeeze Thea's hands out of fear that she would vanish as she regarded Thea with a blank expression.

Thea asks Anne in the softest voice possible, but she worries greatly about her uncomfortable acts.

"Anne, I don't like the way you're acting. What's wrong?"

Remembering what occurred in the La Roche Mansion kitchen a few hours ago. She was struggling with whether or not to tell Thea what she had heard, which indicated that there was certainly something wrong with her.

**** A few hours ago****

After she witnessed her young miss having a fling with her fiancé in the garden, Anne was in a fantastic mood. The simple sight of her young miss lovey-dovey moments gave her a sense of accomplishment.

She suddenly felt happy, so she made Thea's favorite coffee. A recognizable strong manly voice stopped her as she was ready to walk into the kitchen.

"Is that Butler Alfred?" Is he engaged in conversation? He's whispering, but why? He has a sinister air about him, she thought.

Anne can't help but wonder who Butler Alfred was speaking to since she was already questioning his loyalties to the La Roche Family.

She grinned as she remembered how her young miss used to make fun of Butler Alfred. Young Miss, I was right, she mumbled.

She chose to hide behind the pillar at the kitchen entrance and listen to Butler Alfred's phone call in order to validate her instincts.

She frowned at Butler's strange phone call, "He's reporting to someone, but to whom?"

After a few minutes, Anne sighed in despair since she was unable to follow the direction of their talk. When Butler Alfred's comments caused Anne's feet to stop moving forward, she was almost about to leave.

Her ears perk up with attention when Butler Alfred says, "Her maid seems to be skeptical about me and the tea."

After hearing those comments, Anne made the decision to linger behind the pillar and continue to observe Butler Alfred. Her gut told her that he was referring to a specific maid and tea.

Whose maid, though? She arched an eyebrow.

Anne remembers what happened earlier in Thea's room with Butler Alfred, the tea he was pouring, and how she prevented him from doing so.

Anne's eyes enlarge with shock. She said, "So h-talking he's about ME."

She hid her mouth in shock, "Why are you doing this, Alfred?"

The confirmation of Anne's suspicions about the Butler stunned her. She continued to listen, assuming that was the worst one, but the next few of his words caused her face to grow pale and her body to tremble in terror.

Butler Alfred was talking on his phone, and Anne was paying close attention. "I understand madam, I will make sure she drinks the medicines no matter what," Butler Alfred said.

She screamed out loud, "So, there's a drug on the TEA." Butler Alfred heard the small noise coming from her direction, but he was unaware of it.

Butler Alfred quickly increased his guard after hearing some noise at the kitchen door. He shouted, "Is anybody there? Reveal yourself!" causing Anne to flinch because she had never before heard Butler Alfred shout so loudly.

She knelt down behind the pillar, hugging her knees to her chest, and forcefully pressing her lips together out of fear of making a sound after realizing her error.

Butler Alfred snarled, "Show yourself, you rat!" While she watched every move he made, Anne's heart was racing. He was standing one step away from her.

She inhaled and hoped Butler Alfred wouldn't find her. With Butler Alfred's shoes only a step away, Anne catches her breath in expectation. She had previously seen the toe of his shoes out of the corner of her eye. She quickly closed her eyes as she braced herself for the worst.

While she awaited his discovery. The butler stopped when Anne heard a young man's voice coming from the back of the kitchen, and she sighed with relief.

'I'm secure at this time.' She reasoned internally that he must be the new gardener.

Butler Alfred paused in his stride as he turned to face the young boy who was smiling at him. He held his blade at his back, but he was still in alert mode. He recalls the madam telling him to remove everything in their path that will obstruct them.

After noticing the uneasy stillness, the young man promptly spoke. Butler Alfred was casting a critical glance towards him.

Unaware that his life was in jeopardy, the young servant remarked, "Butler Alfred, Old Master requests you to prepare his tea and bring it to the balcony."

Butler Alfred looked at the young man who was innocently staring at him and asked the young servant with suspicion, "How long have you been there?"

Listening Anne cast a quick glance towards the Butler. When she caught sight of the deadly blade he was concealing on his back, her eyes widened in shock. As she realized what was going to happen to the young servant, she gulped in horror.

While listening to the two men from the kitchen, Anne thought, "I can't believe Alfred would do such a thing, even though we are not on speaking terms, I always believed that you're a good person Alfred, but what are you trying to accomplish here."

As Butler asked a question, the young guy tilted his head in perplexity. He asked innocently, "No sir, I just came in, do you need something?"

Butler Alfred replies, "Alright, inform the old master, and I will deliver the tea to him," believing the young guy to be telling the truth. Butler Alfred then puts the knife back on his back belt.

The boy nodded.

As he left to see who was behind the pillar, Butler Alfred returned to the kitchen feeling relieved. Butler Alfred left, and Anne sprang to her feet and sprinted to her young miss chamber.

.

When she moved, she muttered. 'Maid? Tea? DRUGS!? When she continuously thought of the words that had been stored in her head.

She worriedly questioned herself while chewing her nails, "Would she believe me if I informed her about the drugs? Or what if she does not believe me since I do not have any evidence for my suspicion? Would I seek any proof first before informing her?" She moved back and forth as she stood outside Thea's room.

When Thea arrived outside her room, she noticed this scenario.
