Chapter 13 - The date to the gala - I

Christian had made it into America and every tabloid and newspaper had his name on it. It did not help that when Grace had to read The Economic Times the only news she could find that was irrelevant to the cause in small columns whereas every other major page had a photo of Christian or something completely irrelevant about him.

She put the newspaper down in frustration. There was no use reading anything!

She glanced at the time and it was almost the time to leave. Her grandmother was already out for the day so Grace did not bother saying bye to anyone and simply picked her up her bag and walked out of the building and into the car where Romeo held her door open.

She looked at the streets of New York as she was driven by them. Three years had passed since her bakery had been destroyed and the murder of Liam had been hush hush.

Liam was from an influential family but Grace had never bothered to know him. She was not a person to be social so she was usually surrounded by the people that knew Christian.

She opened the door to her cabin and most of the office, which she could see through her see-through mirror, was still empty. She was early.

She liked to be early.

She pressed the button on the laptop as it turned on to life before that she heard a knock on the door.

Miguel Vega, her boss, stood there.

"Sir," she stood up and walked around the table, "how may I help you?"

Mr Vegan was dressed in a stunning suit and it was a three-piece one. It only made him look more elegant and regal. She actually felt like she was in the presence of a king.

He pointed to the chair behind her desk that was her seat and to the one in front of her. Grace did as told and once she was seated he began to talk.

"I hope you know about the business Gala coming up. Since you are in the position of a financial manager I hope you are planning to give this time."

She licked her lip nervously. She had completely forgotten about it. In fact she was to receive an invitation from her superior which had never gotten on her table. Must have miraculously got lost on the way.

"I. . was." She nodded her head.

"You never received the information, did you?" The man's eyes calculated quicker than the calculator, "Murry never gave you the invitation." He concluded.

Color her shocked. "How did you know?" She could not help but murmur the words out. Did you know this before coming here?

He smirked lightly. The action only made him hotter than before. "I have noticed your absence repeatedly from such functions. It was only speculation that he had not provided you with the invitation because you would have done wonders if you met other competitors of mine."

Wow, so he was aware of the work she did. She nodded to him, " well don't you worry mister Vega. I will be there this time."

"I have no doubt about that." He leaned on the table and somehow bridge the distance making her grow warm. "However, would you like to go with me?"

"Uh . .like a date?"

"No," he replied, "as my assistant."

Nothing could embarrass her more. "Oh—"

"Yes, Grace Russo, I am asking you to go with me as my date to the function. Would you like to?"

Without any thought, she nodded. "Would you like my address?"

He smiled as she blushed. Who knew she could actually find love in the most unexpected of all places.
