"Mummy?" Bai Xiaojin called out softly.
"Yes, my love," she answered. Bai Xiaojin turned around so that he could face her.
"Can I ask you a question?"
"Yes, you can. Is there a problem?" She asked suspiciously. His behaviour was starting I to creep her out.
"No, there is no problem. I just... I just wanted to ask a question. It has been on my mind lately. I wanted to ask you a long time back, but you were busy with work and when you come back you are always tired. But since you are not doing anything now, I wanted to ask if it was okay to ask you a question," he explained.
"I am sorry for not paying much attention to you. You can ask whatever you want to ask me, anytime at all. So tell me what you want to ask," she probed. She had not really been there for her son due to work but she did not want that to be her excused for not raising and paying attention to get son. She needs to make it up to him.
"Mummy, where is my daddy?"
