Chapter 17 - CH. 17: Is It I Who Was Stupid Or You?

Amanda stood up with a cold look on her face.

"This is Maya, she will join Amelia in helping out around this place," she then said pointing at the maid with her.

Maya looked at Amanda, though she wasn't always the one attending to Amanda when she goes out, she had been following her for so long.

Even without Amanda not saying anything, she knew what she was supposed to do.

Though it wasn't only her who was thinking this way.

"Oh are you leaving a spy here, mother?" Heather returned to calling her mother.

Her smile remained sweet like an innocent one, genuinely asking about the matter.

Amanda glared at her.

When everything just started, Amanda acted in a luke warm towards Heather. Though she hated the fact that she ended up choosing a poor woman while trying to avoid another poor woman, she tried acting like a good mother.

After all Heather was doing great at her acting like a gentle filial daughter towards her.

But now that Heather showed her true self, since it was just them, why can't she do the same?

Heather grinned at her but she no longer said anything.

She had provoked the witch more than enough for a day.

It is better not to push it further lest Amanda suddenly decides to kill her instead of simply getting her to divorce Cyrus.

Heather bowed down towards Amanda, like a magician that just ended her show and when she once again looked up, gone was the goofy smile.

She instead had an indifferent look.

When one were to look at it, you wouldn't feel amused nor irritated. It was just the same as looking at a mask.

Amanda finally once again turned to leave no longer giving her another glance.

The maid sent her off before closing the door behind her.

She looked back at Heather.

"I think the servant's quarter are just down the hallway on this floor. That hallways beside the kitchen door. Aunt Amelia wasn't staying here overnight so you have the room for yourself. feel at home."

She walked towards the stairs after saying this.

Maya frowned as she watched the ascending figure.

She was expecting Heather to give some rules and stuff or to confront her since she was well aware that she was here to be a spy.

Heather wasn't lax about a spy being here but it was already a part of her expectations so it didn't matter.

After all, once she meet her parents on the weekend of next week, she will no longer need to go out.

She even plans on staying inside the house until she her next step.

So whether Maya is here to spy on her or not, she does not care.

But when she entered her wardrobe and once again saw the bags of make ups and clothes.

She did saw these things a while ago, and was thinking that aunt Amelia must have felt that they were a pity and thought to speak to her regarding them.

But now she was glad this stayed.

She just needs to repeat her words to aunt Amelia, this time with another person present.

She didn't care about the someone spying on her but that doesn't mean she wouldn't do anything about them.

After all, who wants to be watched so closely?

She can just irritate them to death.

She sat down on her study table.

She had her own study room on the third floor, after all this place was still big enough to give her such.

She also brought out her old laptop and checked everything about it.

She had Wesley tinker on it inn the past.

As far as she knew, Wesley was among the top of programming addict in the country.

That is why she knew that her current software has a good security.

And even though the laptop was an old model, she had it fixed by him a while ago.

Now it can keep up with the latest models and was even better when it comes to security.

She wouldn't need to worry about Amanda hiring someone to hack into it.

Because they wouldn't be able to.

When she opened this with Wesley a while ago, she saw different photos and videos and she felt nostalgic.

This was her laptop when she went to that village and it stayed with her for almost ten years now.

So many memories were stored in it.

She shook her head to shake away the sadness that suddenly befell her.

She needed to focus now.

She opened an app where she can put a to do list for herself.

It has a calendar and has a color coding scheme where she can apply to see the difficulty of the task she will be doing.

There was also a time, for her to see her own time limit.

'For now, I guess I need to focus on the things that will happen the closest. Also I should probably start planning about that matter.'

There is one single matter that she knew she could use to really get close to Cyrus.

It is a long run one but it doesn't matter to her.

Just like what Amanda thought a while ago.

Heather was not racing with time, instead she was bidding her time in this plan of hers.

Her hands moved around the keyboard for a few hours. From time to time stopping to think before continuing.

Just as the sky had turned dark, she stretched to release the tension on her shoulders.

Planning was really not so easy and she didn't like it one bit. She just have no other choice at this moment. Because if she don't plan ahead then surely just like her first life, she won't be able to do anything.

*knock knock*

With a raise of an eyebrow she watched the door open after her fingers moved across the keyboard.

"Young madam the dinner is ready."

"I'm surprised," Heather spoke as she stood up.

Maya furrowed her brows.

"I wasn't expecting that you would do your work as a maid."

With that she walked out of the room.

Maya watched her walked down the stairs but didn't follow her.

She walked towards the study table and checked her laptop that she left opened.

Since Heather was fully aware that she was a spy, then she no longer needed to be discrete.

Heather can close everything but Maya was also adept with computers, she can dig everything, even those that are deleted.

With a smug smile she sat down, Heather must have thought she didn't know a thing.

Soon her fingers moved across the keyboard and codes after codes appeared on the screen of the old model laptop.

She was trying to open every single file inside.

Word, excel, images, videos, anything.

"HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!"

The chair fell back and the back of her head hit the floor.

She yelped in pain before sitting down on the cold floor before she stared blankly at the screen of the laptop where a woman with big long nose and a tall hat was laughing.

It was obviously an animated witch.

And that witch was looking mockingly towards her while laughing loudly.

This witch appeared the moment she pressed enter and a smile appeared on her lips, confidently thinking that she would be able to see everything that Heather was currently doing.

She was even mocking Heather in her mind for acting high and mighty when speaking to them, yet she was so stupid that she left her computer open even with a spy placed near her.

Who would have thought that something like this would actually happen.

Maya turned to the door when she heard someone scoffed.

"What do you think? Is it I who was stupid or you?" Heather asked with mirth swimming in her eyes.

She stepped inside the study room.

"But I must say, you are confident yet your capability was just so so. Took you twenty minutes to finish up your hacking. That's too slow, I was already done eating and the food I ate has already digested."

Maya's face turned red at the embarrassment and anger of what had just happened.

"Well, I guess, you need more practice in order to find out what that laptop contains. Though I must warn you, if you try to take it away, it has a self destruction system."

She was now beside the table, reaching out to close the laptop in order to stop the laughing witch.

"It is up to you whether to believe it or not."

After saying her piece, she took her laptop with her before walking out of the study room.

"Oh and, the food? It is filled with preservatives. Don't bother the next time if you can't cook with natural ones. It destroys one's taste buds."

She even pointed at her tongue before leaving an embarrassed maid still sitting on the cold floor.

Heather scoffed, there's no need to try and do things in secret. They can be open about it, isn't that more fun than going around in the shadows with such people?
