Chapter 21 - CH. 21: NOM NOM NOM

Being engrossed with the books she bought, she didn't realize the call she had been receiving until Amelia called her for dinner.

She had two missed calls, both coming from Cyrus.

She raised an eyebrow, these two calls were two hours ago.

It was also the first time since their wedding that he called. Heather was even shock to know that he has her number.

With a shrug she walked down to have dinner, she didn't bother calling him back.

If he has something to say then he should just call again, though he should do it when she was not focused on her studies.

Since she started, she couldn't help but to be even more engrossed toward this subject. It was both new and curious for her. At the same time, she loves the challenge.

The challenge of learning such a difficult subject with the limited time that she has.

'I should probably ask Alexander about a good teacher. He must have a few people in mind, right?' she thought while chewing mouthful after mouthful of food.

"Slow down, no one is running after you," Amelia said.

Heather smiled, "I didn't notice, I was too focused, sorry about that."

Amelia was liking this person more and more.

Because unlike her character in the past year, this one in front of her has more emotions in her eyes. The one before was hiding completely, Amelia didn't even know if she was liked or not.

She was really like a doll.

Her dinner was interrupted when her phone rung once again.

"Hello?"

Cyrus frowned upon hearing her speaking with her mouth obviously full.

"I was calling," he said coldly.

"Yes, that is why I answered and now we are talking."

He closed his eyes knowing full well that she was being sarcastic with him.

He was obviously talking about his two phone calls prior this one but she talked about this one.

If not for his mother calling and telling him that Heather had bullied her niece then he wouldn't even bother calling her.

Heather put the phone into speaker mode and left it in the table while she continued eating.

Cyrus could hear the utensils and could slightly hear her chewing.

She really didn't talk and waited for him to speak first.

In the past-

No, was there even a time where he called her in the past year?

He massaged the space between his brows after realizing that the two of them have not spoken properly over the past year.

He always evaded her and treated her coldly.

But he did remember her trying to make him come home during his and her birthday, the last being their first anniversary.

Other than those three, she didn't even try to make him come home during the new year.

She did her best to live silently but did her best to try and close the gap between them as well.

"Mother talked about her niece."

"…"

*NOM NOM NOM*

"…"

"OH!!!"

He heard her slapping a solid surface.

Heather slapped the table, the thing about Kayla was thrown out of her mind after she got home. That she ended up being confused of what Cyrus was talking about.

"You were talking about that person."

Heather mouthed thank you when Amelia handed her the mug of coffee that she asked from Amelia.

"She was quite fast, wasn't she?" she added.

"…"

"Anyway, it was her who came to me first. If she has problems then isn't the problem supposed to be on her and not me?"

Cyrus knew very well that Heather was right, it's just, his mother asked him to check on Heather because her sudden change was too sudden that she couldn't keep up.

Amanda obviously was still relying on the fact that Heather seemed to have real feelings towards Cyrus, especially since she didn't reject the idea of them being together and being married.

Amanda thinks that Heather really still wants to stay and she does not believe what Heather spoke of about being bored and playing games with them.

This person was obviously much more intelligent than what she had shown to them.

And the game she's playing was a game, Amanda knew she must not underestimate.

"If she has a problem with how I made her speechless, shouldn't she look at herself and wonder why she ended up like that because of only a few words?"

"…"

Seeing as he remained silent, Heather no longer continued.

She knew why Amanda made Cyrus call, this game of chess of the three of them is seriously much more fun than what she had thought at first.

She only wonders if Cyrus could tell that they are in a three way battle at this moment even though a chess game is supposed to be played by only two people.

"What are you doing?"

When Heather thought he has nothing more to say, Cyrus spoke.

"I am simply living my life, if they wish to interrupt I won't stop them but that doesn't mean I will let them do as they please as well."

"If this is another act of-"

"Oh come on mama's boy, isn't it obvious that I am way over that act?"

Cyrus was speechless.

First because for the first time, it was her who interrupted him and not the other way around.

When Heather tried to talk to him personally, he would interrupt her with some cold replies or simply turning away.

They never had a phone call because he didn't want to answer any of it.

Yet now, on their very first phone call, Heather actually interrupted him without showing the enthusiasm she always has when they got the chance to speak with one another.

Secondly, he couldn't digest the two words she had called him.

'Mama's boy'

Heather actually called him a mama's boy.

On the other side of he phone, Heather smirked hearing nothing from the other side.

It wasn't the usual cold silence but instead he was dumbfounded.

"You really don't need to worry I am seriously tired of that act. This is the real me."

"You-"

"Goodbye, mama's boy."

*BEEP BEEP*

His aura turned even colder and the hand that was gripping the phone had its knuckles turned white after he gripped the phone tighter and tighter.

He had hated her but this was the very first time he became speechlessly mad towards her.

She was daring enough at this moment to actually call him names.

And even dropped the call herself.

If this is not another acting and it is her real self then he was even more wondering.

What does she plan on doing now?

Heather was laughing after she ended the call.

She had always wanted to call him that after her return. Though its just been a few days, she really wants to try and she actually succeeded. Not just once but twice at that.

As for whatever he will do after hearing her call him name, she wouldn't care. He can come and confront her, wouldn't that give their current life more colors?

"Young madam?" Amelia called seeing her laughing on her own when she was no longer on the phone.

Heather looked at her with a bright smile before shaking her head.

"It is nothing. I am just very happy."

Amelia blinked, she had just called her husband a mama's boy and it was obvious she was teasing him but Heather was actually having fun about it?

"Don't worry, don't worry. Doesn't this improve our marital life? This is strengthening the bond between us couple," Heather waved her hand.

But her words made Amelia even more confused.

'Calling your husband mama's boy will strengthen your bond? Why is it the other way around? Wouldn't it usually cause more tear between the bond?'

At the same time, Amelia was happy seeing them interact more without Cyrus coldly leaving Heather all on her own.

Even though it was just a bit, Cyrus actually initiated a phone call.

He initiated contact with his wife whom he had been avoiding for a whole year.

After having fun, Heather returned to her studies.

She needs to refresh her knowledge, though she still remembers them clearly, she needed to ensure that she can do better at this profession.

She also did not forget to send Alexander a message.

'Brother help me look for a great… Not good okay… Great biologist. Not only of plants but of animals and other microorganisms. In short EVERYTHING connected to it.'

Alexander was elated to receive a message from her but raised an eyebrow when he read everything.

'You have to tell me what you are planning first before I could give you a suggestion.'

Heather thought about it before deciding, it is not like it was against the law to study what she was about to study.

'Biological weapon, someone who can tackle any disease-producing agents. It doesn't have to be only one person. Bacteria, viruses, rickettsiae, fungi, toxins, anything. I need the experts on these fields.'

Alexander raised an eyebrow, she first came to them to say that she owns a weapon company, something they looked into after finding out and realized that all the people managing it were from the same village she had been to while being away from the public's eye.

They can also see the potential it has while it slowly grows.

Much better that suddenly making it boom in one go before dying in the end.

This showed that Heather's business mind was better than most people. She does not rush things but was planning things slowly, yet surely will have a better result.

'I'll look into them,' he replied.

'Okay, I will be waiting.'
