Chapter 18 - Chapter 18

Personal Assistant of the CEO

It did have a nice ring in her ears. It was a job she earned all by herself. She believed her Uncle Evan had nothing to do with this. He had promised not to meddle with her affairs anymore, and she believed him.

Her lips could not stop smiling. She knew she was in her happy place as she walked toward a gorgeous woman standing at the center of the floor.

"Are you Luisa Richmond?" The woman quickly asked. She answered yes and nodded. "I am Jennifer Bridget. I assume the HR Department has already briefed you on your primary duties."

"Yes, Bianca explained it to me." Luisa nodded as she followed her to the expansive foyer towards the end of the hall.

"We still have a few things to discuss regarding your responsibilities," Jennifer informed her as they stopped at a big desk that she assumed was hers.

But she did notice the few employees working on this floor compared to the others as they passed their working tables. A few doors, which led to at least three more rooms, were on the other side of the massive floor.

Just like the other employees, they had that curious glance in their eyes. She would prove to them that despite not having much experience, she would excel in her job.

"We can talk more about that later, but for now, our boss is already waiting to meet you." The other woman stopped at the big double doors.

Then, she entered, carrying a folder. She followed closely behind but did not see the boss since his chair faced the massive windows behind his desk, appearing to be talking to someone on the phone.

Ms. Bridget asked her to sit and wait while placing the folder on the table. "Don't bother him while he is on the phone. Just wait till he calls you." Jennifer instructed before she left the room.

But whoever was behind that desk continued with his business, not minding if she had to wait.

Well, who was she to demand his time?

Therefore, she quietly sat and waited. Slowly, she allowed her head to move around, scanning the table first for anything interesting. A laptop, desktop, folders, and some more office stuff covered the table.

Although the man continued to talk on the phone, in her mind, it was an eerie silence as her heart drummed in her chest, filling her with dread.

Why did these people always have to make it suspenseful?

She could not wait to meet him and get it over with at the soonest. But she was not getting her way as he continued his conversation, not even bothering to look in her direction.

If this was a premonition of what she would be doing all day, she did not mind sitting around and waiting. At least she was being paid to do that.

She straightened in her seat, realizing she had slumped on the chair. Then she allowed her eyes to roam around the room, catching something in the room that she did not expect to see.

A flag on the corner of the spacious room displayed a crest in the front, looking familiar to her. She could not see the full image since the textile creased in some areas, but if she could see it, she might remember where she had seen it.

"Ok. I will be expecting results soon." The man cheerfully said, seemingly happy with the other man on the line.

That was a good sign.

She could only smile at her luck. The last thing she needed was to catch her boss on her first day in a bad mood. But she finally focused on his voice. It did not sound old as she initially expected.

But what did she know about voices? But she could tell he had a charismatic, deep voice that was becoming familiar. She could tell she had heard that tone before. But where?

Searching her brain for answers as her focus returned to the man whose chair swiveled in her direction. Her eyes were as big as saucers as she stared at the man who suddenly faced her.

No. No. Definitely No.

She should have recognized that deep beautiful baritone accent. How could she be so clueless?

He could not be her boss. She silently scrutinized his face, recognizing him from the several instances of their encounters. There was no mistake. But she was supposed to work for a senior man, close to retirement age.

That was not him she had seen on the internet. So, what was he doing here? Should she get up and walk away? But she needed this job. She was desperate, and the pay they had discussed earlier was great.

What should she do?

Fortunately, he did not quickly notice her as he bade farewell to whoever was on the other line. He shook his head and opened the folder before him that his secretary had dropped earlier.

When she saw his face change and a scowl appear on his face, she could tell that there was something wrong. "You!" He finally lifted his face and looked at her, recognition also written all over his expression.

"Yes, it is me. And I guess you are my new boss. What happened to Mr. Griffin?" She was expecting someone else, but it seemed she had no choice but to work for him.

"Wait! Why are you here again?" He seemed surprised and confused to see her. "Boss?" He questioned, looking at her and back to the file, which she would assume was her papers.

"You hired me to become your Personal Assistant, assuming you are the CEO." Seeing nobody else in the room. Then he was the one sitting on that grand chair.

She could still feel her heart beating wildly, seeing the Prince who had his lips on hers last night. The same person who had been looking for her and told her he knew things about her.

Was this all one big coincidence, or was fate making fun of their situation? But she doubted that this was his doing. He looked innocent about all of this, even furious to see her.

"Why would I hire you?" He suddenly stood up from the chair. "There must be some kind of mistake." He continued, but before she could respond. "Would you wait outside for a minute?" He instructed.

She immediately complied, slightly nervous that he was about to fire her. As much as she did not want to work for him, she had no other choice. This work was the best job offer she had so far.

Then, she saw Jennifer enter when she came out. She was curious about what would happen inside. But with no choice, she had to wait again.

Whatever they discussed? It sounded not pretty as his voice reverberated on the empty threshold. Still, she did not understand most of what was said since the walls muffled the voices inside the room.

But she hoped she was not leaving empty-handed. But if that was the case.

Great! Her credentials would show, fired on the first day of the job.

A new record.
