Was there any way for her to back up now? She could say that she had a stomach ache or a fever. But she was never good at lying. Her guilty conscience would not stop nagging at her for concocting a lie just because she was afraid to face the consequence of her actions.
She had gotten herself into this situation. She should find a way to get out of it with her head held high. She could not keep running away from her problems and hoped they would get resolved by themselves. That was not how the world worked.
"Two weeks or more." She said with a heavy breath, inhaling and exhaling deeply as if that should help her situation. But the more she thought about it, the tenser she got.
She was not expecting today's turn of events. After what happened yesterday, she knew she was doomed. When she walked into her boss's this morning, she had expected she would be out of the job.
