Chapter 50 - Episode 50: Needs These Little Things

Aaron continued grumbling as he walked back to the princess palace. Luna's words made him think of the possibility that the king might really come and check on the princess and if she is sleeping then he would be doomed.

She was elegant and dignified when he first saw her.

Who would have thought that she was like that?

But remembering the look on the servants, it seems that was really who she was.

Messing his hair, he jumped back up to the window he jumped off to a while ago.

And he was agape.

The quill was lying on the table, the set of parchments were scattered all over the place, some on the floor while some were atop the books that were unopened. And all of them were completely blank.

And the said princess was dozing off atop another pile of books, seeking a more comfortable spot on the table to lean on for her beauty sleep.

Aaron looked around and saw that nothing seemed amiss, the king seems to have not come yet.

With a heavy sigh, he walked over and with enough pull.

"Hey!!"

Genevieve woke up immediately when the book she was using as a pillow was pulled away under her.

She furrowed her brows and looked around only to see Aaron, standing opposite her with one brow raised.

She sat up straight while blinking innocently.

"I am not a book learner. I am more of a practical learner. I won't learn flying through books," she said with a pout.

"Your highness, I am asking you to research and jot down everything you can learn about wind ability. Not about flying."

She instantly stood up, "I already learned everything I can about my ability. What you were tasked to do is to let me learn how to fly."

"I already asked permission, princess. Permission to allow me to teach at my own pace and my own way."

He actually met up with the king prior to coming to the princess' palace.

(Flashback)

"My daughter loves her ability very much and learning new things about it is her favorite. I leave her to you, for her to learn how to fly."

"Your majesty, if I may speak."

Archibald gestured for him to speak his mind.

"I have my own thoughts about flying but if the princess is adamant in learning. Then I will teach her at my own pace and my own way. Is that alright your majesty?"

Archibald was silently stunned at his words.

If it was anyone else they would have accepted it as is, thinking of it as nothing but privilege and a chance to get close to the royal family.

"What thoughts do you have about flying?" he asked before saying anything else.

"Abilities are always double edged swords. They protect you but without proper control, they can kill you. Flying isn't as easy as it seems. Because once you lose control of it, you won't regain any control again. You might plummet to your death or rush to the side of a cliff smacking you to your death, your majesty."

Archibald knew what he was talking about abilities being two edged swords. He did not expect that he would describe flying as that.

"Well, as long as she can control it then that is fine. She has more than enough talent for it."

Aaron shook his head, "It is not about talent, your majesty. Even if the princess can learn one thing with just a glance, flying needs its user to know what wind is. How fragile it is. Particles of winds were the least dense as compared to the rest of the abilities. One wrong particle out of place, then it is over. That is how fragile flying can be. It is not just balance and mana control. It is about understanding the wind itself not just the ability."

Archibald was silently enlightened at his words.

It seems that they have underestimated these people.

They aren't just good with their control. They understood their abilities down to its smallest fact.

After some thought, he started nodding his head.

"It may prove difficult to teach the princess but please guide her well."

He was giving him approval of teaching her at his own pace and way.

Aaron bowed his head, "I thank you, your majesty."

(End Of Flashback)

Genevieve could not rebuke and could only stare at him in disbelief.

All her tutors would shut up and teach her what she wants, this is her first time encountering someone like this.

"Why don't you see what I can do then you can decide if I still need to learn such stuff?"

"What I am going to teach you is how to fly, your highness. Not what other things you can do."

"Then why are you making me learn these little things?"

"Because flying needs these little things."

"..."

She could not argue back again and could only sit back down while glaring at the books.

"I will be watching you closely princess. Unless you give me what I am asking you, I won't tell you anything about flying."

He sat down at the sill of the window while crossing his arms over his chest. One foot stepping on the sill while another was hanging down the wall.

He also looked outside.

No matter how mad she felt, she knew right now, he is the only one who can help her achieve what she wants. And that is how to fly.

So she opened one book while picking up a quill and a blank parchment.

Aaron enjoyed the forest view outside, from time to time seeing birds fly.

He could hear the pages rustling despite not looking. The quill's sound of writing on the parchment could also be heard with the silence between them.

He knew she must have started trying.

But he didn't care about her trying. What he cares is the fact that she needs to internalize and to understand what she is currently studying.

Hours passed...

"Here."

He looked back at her and at the papers in front of him that she was handing over.

He took it and flipped through it fast, she didn't know if he was reading it or not. Then he used his wind to shred them to pieces.

"Now write it again," he said, allowing the pieces to fly outside.

Genevieve was agape.

"Do you realize how long it took me to write that?"

He looked outside the window and saw that the sun was about to set, "The whole day."

Her face turned red, "Why did you shred it like that without properly looking at it?"

"Isn't that why I am asking you to write it again?" he said again.

He started walking towards the door, "We can continue this tomorrow, your highness."

And without waiting for her to answer, the door closed behind him.

Genevieve stomped her foot on the ground in agitation.

She glared at the books before going out of the library.

"Help me prepare. I need to meet my father."

It was not long until she met Archibald at the dining table.

"Father, why did you allow him to teach me in his own way?" was her first question, almost an accusation.

She was always like this, as the spoiled princess, she grew up even asking her father in this kind of manner.

"Well, because he is the only one who knows how to fly. And so he is the only one who will know how to teach others how to fly," Archibald replied patiently.

"But he is not teaching me how to fly. He is teaching me what wind ability is. Something I was already well aware of from the get go!!" she felt wronged that she was made to learn the basics when she didn't need to in the first place.

"And did you know that after writing the whole day about wind ability? He actually shredded them in front of me. After simply flipping through it!!! And now he is telling me to write it all over again? He is too much."

Archibald went silent.

This is the very first time that someone reacted that way to the princess who everyone knows he and the queen loves dearly. Everyone didn't make things difficult for her.

"Then write it."

Before he could speak.

Julian, who was actually also with them, spoke up. Something he does not usually do when it comes to the tantrums of his sister.

It was not only him who was there but even Gabriel. Their mother was the only one missing as she retired early.

But Gabriel chose to remain silent, though was also in shock when his brother spoke up.

"Are you listening to me brother?"

"Yes, and what I can see is a stubborn one who is not listening to her tutor. He is the only one who knows how to fly. If you don't do what he wants you to do then no one will teach you. No one is capable of it."

"But I can learn with just him showing it to me."

"And do you want to die like that?" he squinted his eyes.

"Why would I die?"

"Flying is a high level skill. It is not the same as the rest of the skills you have been using all this time."

Then his eyes glazed over.

'High leveled skills needed more than just mana or knowledge. It needs deeper understanding.'
