Chapter 20 - Growing Fast

Elaina finished watering all of the crops she had planted. The other seeds she planted that are not part of the crops granted to her with Farm Points are growing nicely and have started sprouting on the soil. She will have to constantly check for pests on their leaves and soil to ensure they grow healthy and won't lose quality. The radishes' growth is looking good.

As for the parsnip, she still couldn't believe her eyes. She just planted them a few days ago and now, it is almost ready for harvest. She will now be able to see and tell whether these parsnips are something that she should sell or just consume herself.

"Still...seeing these parsnips grow much faster than my radishes is a bit...weird," Elaina mumbled to herself.

Since Elaina needed to plant new crops, she started cleaning a new patch of land and tilled a few farmable plots. Elaina also took extra time to organize growing the vegetables. She grows two kinds of vegetable crops; one bought from the Farm Market and one bought from the market. With this label, Elaina will not forget which crops are regular and the ones that are not regular crops.

As Elaina is finishing her final touches to the farm plots, Julia has finally woken up.

"Oh, it seems you are finally awake, Julia, good morning. How's the first night?" Elaina asked while her face was still busy with her task.

"Morning Sis, I got a good night's sleep just fine. I apologize for not waking up early though. It left me exhausted when I used too much of my mana just to teleport myself from the Mansion straight into here while also maintaining little connection in this place to ensure that during teleportation, I will not get lost in the process," Julia approached Elaina who just finished her little task.

"Is that how it is? Guess not using tools to aid you in using magic would take a toll on people's bodies. Are you fine now though?"

"No worries, Sis. I can even help you with your work. You shouldn't work too much since that is very bad for the baby. Let me do the work," Julia looked around the area that Elaina was working on and saw the empty farm plots that Elaina had just finished tilling and are just now waiting to be fertilized and planted.

"Thanks for the concern but I can still do things just fine. And besides, this should be a good way of exercise. I am also making sure not to overwork myself as well."

Elaina grabbed the bag containing the potato seeds and also the bag containing the fertilizer given by the Harvest Goddess earlier.

"Let me help!" Julia enthusiastically offered.

"Alright. But do you know how to properly plant these seeds?"

"Not really. You should teach me, sis!"

Elaina smiled before she started to teach Julia proper ways to plant the seeds to also ensure that these seeds would grow properly and would not be pecked and eaten by birds passing by.

"Oh yeah, I needed to make a scarecrow later on. If I just leave the plots without one, big chances those birds will ruin our crops later."

"Let me handle it, Sis! I am good at crafting different things. We just needed the materials and I could make it in a jiffy," Julia puffed her chest with pride.

"Didn't think you would know how to craft those in the first place,' Elaina was surprised. Just how much has Julia grown and learned things while she was not watching?

Elaina proceeded to complete all of the crops that should be planted and thanks to Julia, Elaina's work was done quicker.

"Alright...I just needed to put the fertilizer..." Putting on her gloves, she grabbed a handful of the fertilizer and scattered it on the newly planted potatoes.

She was still in the middle of scattering them when...

"Ah... look, Sis! The potatoes are growing big and nice! But...isn't it growing faster than I thought the amount of days it should be growing?" Julia frowned as she observed the growing plants that had the fertilizer.

Elaina also glanced at the potatoes she was sure to be just a seed a few moments ago turning into a plant with stems and leaves already growing.

'So even these crops are also affected...' Elaina thought to herself as she took note of it mentally. Since the part of the Almanac has not yet been updated just yet, it seems Elaina has to calculate how many days are left to finish growing the potato, and based on how fast it has grown, it only needs an additional 3 more days and a potato harvest will also be underway. While thinking about it, she suddenly remembers Alfred, who liked the Mashed Potatoes she made for him whenever Elaina was not that busy with her business.

"Why did I remember him all of a sudden? Now I am pissed..."

"Sis, I didn't know there were potatoes that grow this fast!" Julia's eyes seemed to sparkle as she observed the plant before her.

"Then, if it grows fast then that will allow us to also gain more money once we harvest them. We can even use them as food as well if we like it as well."

"Oooh, your Mashed Potatoes, Sis! If we have a large harvest, cook one for me as well, Sis!"

"That's certainly for sure one of my plans," Elaina nodded.

With vigor, Julia helped Elaina spread the fertilizers to the potatoes and just like the first one, the others were growing pretty well as well. The only thing that seems to not work when using fertilizers is when she decided to use them for growing crops. It seems the effect does not trigger if the crops are already growing on that soil. If it happens, then she can immediately harvest those parsnips. But since it was not possible, Elaina mentally took note of it.

As Elaina is still busy spreading the fertilizers, all of a sudden, droplets start to fall from the sky.

"Looks like this is the first rain of us."

While the downpour of the rain starts to become stronger, a visitor arrives on the farm.
