Chapter 4 - That Day (Part 4)

"Well, first things first, there are others like you all," Akshika explained.

"About 20% of the population changed into what we call demi-humans. You three are demi-humans, but you are slightly different than the others. From our observations, most demi-humans are still mostly humans, with slightly inhuman characteristics. For example, a catgirl is basically a normal human girl with the addition of a tail and cat ears. Other than this, there is no physical change that occurred during the change."

"The best way to think about the changes is cosmetic. This is good because the changes can be labeled as minor mutations which would not affect the individual at all. For example, their allergies would not change, and any possible illnesses that they would have had before the change would still be present. This means that we know how to deal with these individuals' concerns." After saying this, Akshika paused for a few seconds.

"Ok and? Why is my blood black then? I thought that you said our physiologies did not change that much," Clare said.

"I was getting to that," Akshika said. "You three are not like the other changed. Your bodies have gone through drastic changes."

"As far as I know, there have only been 5 people, including you three that have gone through these changes in the US. We do not know what caused any of these changes, and we also do not know if it is safe for you all to be released into the outside world. We do not know if your immune system has changed, or if you are susceptible to any pathogens that would otherwise be harmless to humans. We also do not know if it is healthy for you all to eat food that normal human beings could eat." Akshika explained.

"For example, apples are poisonous to some lizards, and we do not know if you could eat that," Aksika said, pointing to Clint.

"Also it would be troublesome if you accidentally froze everything around you again," Akshika said, pointing at Alan.

"Uh, so how long will we have to stay here?" Alan asked.

"We cannot keep you here forever, as you still have school. For you, I'm guessing 3-4 days. As for the others, we will have to keep you for longer." Akshika said.

"Ugh, do we have to?" Clare groaned.

"You technically are not obligated to, but we need to keep you here if you do not want to accidentally die," Akshika said.

Clare nodded her head.

"Now, I am sure you all are tired. I will guide you all to a bedroom for the three of you to share. I'm sorry we cannot give you all your own private bedrooms because every changed person was encouraged to come to the hospital to get a free check-up, so a lot of the rooms are taken." Akshika said.

A guard entered the room and guided the three to the bedroom.

"I'll see you all later! I have more tests to run on you all tomorrow!" Akshika said as they left the room.

Luckily, the room that they were given was quite large. They were all given their own queen-sized bed. Alan breathed a sigh of relief.

"Not gonna lie, I am not feeling that tired," Clare said to her boyfriend.

"Well, I sure am. Good night Clare and Alan," Clint said.

"Goodnight," Alan replied.

Though Alan was extremely exhausted, he couldn't sleep. The events of the day were repeating in his head. He still had not come to terms with his own body. He knew that eventually, he would have to but for now, he did not even want to think about it.

Alan heard some creaking and voices coming from Clint's bed. Luckily, there was a screen between each bed, but Alan could assume what was going on.

Alan eventually forced himself to go to sleep, but not for long. Alan was eventually jarred awake by someone screaming at him. Clare was at the foot of his bed shivering profusely.

"ALAN WAKE UP!" Clare yelled at him.

"Wha-," Alan said, confused.

"You're freezing our asses off over here!" Clare exclaimed. "You need to figure out how to control that aura when you are sleeping.

"Oh shit"
