It certainly struck a chord with the audience. They also hoped to rise professionally using talent and hard work. Looks and status should have no part in their level of success. However, a lot of the audience continued to be all about good looks.
It was one thing to appreciate the importance of this, but an entirely different matter when it came to execution. It was human nature to have double standards.
