To say that Hazel was shocked was an understatement, she looked around hoping to find passerby's who would be stunned by the sight of the old granny hovering in the air, but everyone was nonchalant to what was happening or were they not able to see her.
"H..how did you, w-what are you?" Hazel stammered , clearly she wasn't a fan of fairytales so this was probably a lot for her to take in.
"Yeah yeah yeah, that's what people I helped out usually ask , but don't worry child , you are in safe hands….atleast I'm not hear to steal your soul" granny laughed hysterically but had to compose to not scare poor hazel too much, she flew back to sitting down beside hazel who was still finding it hard to believe.
"You clearly are not human, what are you then?"
"I know you find it hard to believe child..but you summoned me here in the first place"
"I did?" Hazel asked confused about the whole situation 'sunny is going to label me a lunatic once she gets to see this'she muttered to herself referring to her friend who she knew was going to laugh the hell out of her once she was told about this.
"Earth to hazel.." Granny touched her face "you dozed off, okay my time is running up as I said you wished to have ur life extended and I granted you that, sweetheart"
"How am I sure this is not a scam ,because the rate at which people would do anything for money these days is really alarming" Hazel said, laughing so hard that the old woman's face changed. Upon noticing that, Hazel's laughter instantly died down. She gave an apologetic smile instead. Gosh, this is ridiculous.
"Hazel blackwood, 24 years old, an orphan with nobody to help her, works in an factory across her street,hmmm" Granny blurted out , raising her eyebrows as if daring hazel for a challenge since she tagged her as a scam.
"Why me,I mean yes..I did wish for my days to be extended but I didn't actually realized that I summoned you…"
"Yes sweetheart,I don't normally answer to every wish but I couldn't ignore yours...besides it's not everyday I get to grant wishes like yours...normally people wish to have more money, fame,good looks. But you are different my child. You wished to have true love," the fairy godmother said with a dreamy expression.
"Love conquers all! " She declared dramatically," And that's why I've decided to extend your days to a year,but you know dear, choices have consequences" Granny said walking around in circles until she gets to stop in front of Hazel who stared at her still contemplating whether to believe her or not.
"Consequences like what…"
"I've granted you a whole year to fulfill your wish little one. In a year time, you are to find true love as you wished before dying, else your soul would be an aggrieved one when you die -restless and wandering the earth in eternal misery " Granny told her in a serious tone that made Hazel gulp a lump down her throat.
"I know I may sound greedy granny..but can't you just grant me long life..you have powers…" Hazel said holding granny's hand with tears flowing down her face,"you can heal me..please granny I don't want to die"
"Humans shall always be humans, once given a chance ,would always crave for more,"Granny said bending down to hazel looking directly into her eyes" Am sorry my child but the power of life and death are not in my hands , the least I could do is to extend your lifespan which I did..am sorry..oh..my time is up." She stood up straight.
"Wait!" Hazel shouted, causing her to turn. She said,"Can I see you again..I mean I would really want to see you in case I have a question to ask "
"Sorry my dear, but my job here is done. See you in a year time and I sincerely pray you find true love," the woman laughed hysterically,"Love conquers all!"
And before Hazel's very eyes, disappeared in a poof of cloudy smoke.
"What the…." Hazel was stunned. What just happened? Was she dreaming? However, she cried out in pain when she pinched her cheeks.
Hazel took in a deep breath, so if all this was true, she now had a year to live? And did she forget to add the part where she has to find true love else she ends up an aggrieved soul?
Wow, what has she gotten herself into?
