They felt as if they had gotten struck by lightning and were simply too shocked. Although they had lived in the village and had not gone out much, they were not ignorant. They knew how expensive it was to get medicine.
Otherwise, no one would be apprehensive about seeing a doctor whenever they got a headache or a fever. Everyone would rather stay home and self-heal or use alternative remedies for treatment.
