Chapter 16 - Class Alone

"Tell me about you"

"About me?" I said nervously, rubbing the back of my neck. "I'm just a girl who schools here"

He laughed.

"W-What? Did I say something funny?"

"You amuse me, Emma"

My cheeks tainted in a blush. "W-What about you? Tell me about you, Dace"

He leaned to his table, resting his arm against it, eyeing me with amusement. "I'm just a simple guy"

A huff came off my mouth before I could stop it, he raised an eyebrow. I licked my lips.

"Don't do that"

"What?"

His eyes leveled to my lips and my heart raced, my lips doing my nervous habit once again.

"That", his pupils dilated to a point his eyes were almost black and his hazel color swirling into them, forming some sort of color.

"Y-Your eyes," I said with a gasp, he quickly looked away blinking, his eyes remained closed. Is he okay? His eye color just now changed when they mixed with his pupils, was that normal? I never knew eyes did such actions, it was so unreal.

"A-Are you okay?" I asked, noticing as his muscles flexed when I spoke, his eyes remained close but he smiled.

"You're distracting," he said in a ragged whisper.

Puzzlement grew on my features. "Everything about you" he faced me, his pupils back to normal. He looked at me with so much intensity like he was trying to figure me out and it got me shifting uncomfortably on my seat.

"I-Is that a bad thing or a good thing?" I asked and then he leaned forward placing his hands on my table, he wasn't that close due to the space arrangement, maybe I should be thankful for that because I almost felt like I couldn't breathe just from this closure, I could smell the expensive cologne rolling off him, it filled my nose and I have never smelt anything pleasant, it smelt like my favorite meal that almost got my mouth watering, okay that was a STUPID thing to say, Emma!

"Still trying to figure that out"

I gulped. "W-Well I'm not difficult, I'm a simple girl"

A smirk pursed up his lips in a side smirk, and I felt myself melt at the glimpse of it. "Simple girl" he nods.

"With average intelligence", okay maybe I shouldn't have said that.

"Average" he mouths like he was trying to understand me.

"Yes," I whispered.

He got more close, and my lips parted, our face was just one foot away. "Freckles" he mused.

"Yes"

"They're beautiful"

"Yes"

"Looks good on you" his finger pokes my glasses shifting them properly at the bridge of my nose. At that gesture, he pulled away and I was finally able to breathe again, my hand clenching my chest, his scent, his breath, his eyes, they were so intoxicating, like a drug.

"Fuck, your scent" he groaned, at the back of my head it sounded like a moan but I was too focused on what he said.

"What?" I asked like I heard wrong, did he just say something about my scent? I leisurely brought my sleeve to my nose, well that doesn't smell so bad, even if I wasn't the cologne type, I have hygiene! I smelt mostly of my favorite shampoo.

He ran his fingers through his raven slightly curly hair and I noticed how they bounced as he did, who had such perfect hair?!

He faces me giving me that burning gaze again, his jaw tightened and his nose flapped slightly, was this because of my scent? I frowned.

I opened my mouth to speak but the door barged open as some chattering group walked in and occupied some seats. Like I was snapped back to reality in their presence, were we even in the class, to begin with? Every moment I was with him, everything just seemed to disappear and time flew by.

My eyes darted to the window and I found out the rain was already passing and the faint sun coming up.

"Give me your number"

"What?" I snapped facing him with wide eyes, I didn't expect him to ask me that out of the blue. I thought he was offended by my smell but it didn't seem like that was the case, there were several occasions I would understand him and there were when I wouldn't but in summary, I do NOT understand him at all.

I stroked a nod and then we exchanged numbers, and as we did I tried my best not to gawk at his iPhone like an idiot, was that the latest model? My eyes darted to my phone, his number there, I couldn't believe this... a boy asked me for my number, I have never had a guy's number before... well except Owen and the rest of the guys from the News club but THIS was different.

"Emma!"

My head shot up from my phone. "O-Owen, hey"

He smiled that signature smile of his that showed his perfect white teeth but they fade when his eyes darted to my side, I realize he was looking at Dace.

"Okay, is this everyone because it better be'' our teacher walked in, and once again I didn't realize the class was already filled up. I noticed Owen taking a seat and not saying anything else to me again. Miles, Henry, and Sarah walked in, Sarah was stunned as she mouths something to me. 'With the Devereaux?' Miles and Henry just exchanged words I couldn't hear, but like seriously I was only seated close to Dace so why does it feel like I was at the edge of a blade?

As classes went on I tried to concentrate but I just couldn't help but move my eyes to the set of handsomeness beside me, gawking at him a number of times before facing forward, I noticed on several occasions that he would smile, even though he was fully concentrated on his textbook, but there's no way he could tell I was staring right?

Seems like even rain can't stop math, eco, history, and English. They were all in full gear and the bells suddenly rang, the very one we were dying to hear, they were already off their seats in a heartbeat and I just scrambled gathering my textbooks in my bag.

"Emma!" Sarah walks up to me. "Come on it's sports time"

"But it's…" I faced the window. "Oh", the weather was a traitor, it was fully sunny right now.

"Hi, Dace," Sarah said, waving her hand with a bright smile, her eyes raking his body. I noticed her cheeks colored in a blush. I bit my lip.

Dace gave her a soft smile but he didn't say a word. I rose to my feet as Sarah led me away, I turned a couple of times but his eyes still focused on me watching me with a glint in his eye, like a predator marking his prey.
