Chapter 17 - New class

Shengyang High school, Experimental class Four.

The atmosphere was chill and relaxed. Some students were sleeping, while a few were listening to music on their headphones or playing games on their phones. In short, only a couple of the students were studying. If they were not told that this was the 12th grade, nobody would believe that these bunch of students were going to appear in college entrance exam in few months.

When Qin Yan followed Wang Zhongyun to the podium, many people had yet to comprehend the situation.

"Everyone, take some time to listen to what I'll be saying next." Wang Zhongyun knocked his finger on the podium. After everyone had looked over, he smiled and said, "This is a student who will be joining our class starting today. Everyone, please clap and welcome her!"

Everyone was extremely surprised.

There were only six months to college entrance exam. In order not to affect the mentality of students during the second semester of the senior year, there basically wouldn't be any changes in their class arrangements until they graduate. How come there was a transfer student at this time!

The disadvantages of changing classes or schools at this time actually outweigh the benefits of doing so! Moreover, their class was the worst class of the year!

Everybody looked over at Qin Yan. What an ugly fatso, they thought! The boys thought that if it were a beauty, it would atleast bless their aesthetics. But alas! They were bound to be disappointed!

Qin Yan smiled and said, "My name is Qin Yan. I hope I can get along well with everyone here in the coming days and work hard for the college entrance examination together."

Wang Zhongyun looked around before he said, "Qin Yan, you can sit on any of the empty seats. It's your choice."

When the students heard that, many of them put their bags on the empty seats beside them. It was clear that they didn't want Qin Yan to sit with them.

"Okay, teacher." Qin Yan's clear but firm voice sounded. Her gaze swept across the last few rows in the classroom, and she then walked over with her bag.

"I'll just sit here. Is that alright?"

The girl, who had been studying seriously with her head lowered, was shocked. She looked up at Qin Yan, revealing the large purplish-red birthmark on her face.

She looked at Qin Yan, and her expression was a little reserved and flustered. She agreed softly before lowering her head.

Qin Yan put her things down and sat down straight away.

As the class started, Wang Zhongyun did not ask about the absent students. The literacy teacher with his half-bald head, minded his own business as he explained the textbook. The students, as expected were doing their own things. Most of them were not interested in the class.

When Wang Zhongyun glanced away from his textbook momentarily and saw the scene before him, his voice paused for a moment.

Qin Yan was listening seriously to him? He had expected her to be like his other students. 'Maybe, I judged her too early,' he thought.

He waved at the girl as she looked at him with a pair of big watery eyes. "Come here, Student Qin Yan. Do you know what I was teaching? Can you recite this poem?"

Qin Yan stood up obediently. "Are you talking about 'Ode To The Lute Player'? This poem was written by Bai Juyi, a poet from the Tang Dynasty. It is one of the long Yuefu poems. Do you want me to recite it?" She tilted her head as the sun shone down on her eyes, making them sparkle like glitter.

Her voice was delicate and her tone was gentle, creating a pleasant vibe.

Wang Zhongyun was amused as he looked at Qin Yan forgivingly. "This poem is really long. It's okay if you can't recite it."

To be honest, he was already pleased that Qin Yan was able to tell him what he was teaching and where it originated from.

At that moment, several students became interested and started watching the scene.

"Ode To The Lute Player? What's that? Is it a song?"

"It must be, right?"

"Oh? Is he asking the transfer student to sing?"

The discussions entered Wang Zhongyun's ears, causing him to roll his eyes. Just as he was about to slam his hands on the table angrily and scold these useless kids, a girl's voice started reciting the poem calmly, immediately drawing his attention.

"One night, at Xunyang Pier, I bade my guests goodbye.."

As Qin Yan recited the poem, the wind swept up her hair, and beams of light danced above her head. She stood straight in her school uniform. The scene was surprisingly beautiful even though the person in question was extremely ugly. Such contrast was hard to come by.

Qin Yan stared straight ahead. Her pleasant voice danced across the air like musical notes. She recited the several-hundred-word poem without looking at the textbook even once.

The troublemakers were speechless as they looked at Qin Yan in a daze.
